LenDale White will stomp your Terrible Towel again

That is, of course, the notorious video of Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White(notes) stomping on a Terrible Towel after the Titans squished the Steelers in Week 16 of last year's regular season.

That act generated a huge amount of anger from people in Pittsburgh who are overly sensitive about the trampling of fabric. White wouldn't apologize for it, and he would've become public enemy number one in Pittsburgh, if the Steelers didn't have other things to focus on at the time. Like winning the Super Bowl, for example.

But the Titans visit Pittsburgh on Thursday night, so White, with his unapologetic towel stomping, jumps back up the list to become the most hated man in Pittsburgh. And guess what? If you put another Terrible Towel near him, he's going to stomp on that thing again. From the Nashville City Paper:

"If it happens to be there, I’m gonna stomp all over that mo –," White said, cutting himself off before finishing the sentence with a profanity. "If there is a towel in the stands, I will stomp on it. I don’t care who gets mad. … If they throw a towel at me, I’m going to kick it and stomp on it. If you don’t want your towels [stomped], keep them out of my face."

Teammate Jevon Kearse(notes) took a more pragmatic approach.

"I’m not even paying attention to that anymore. It happened. It’s in the past," Kearse said. "That was last season. It happened last season, so what? If they want to use that as motivation, let them go ahead and use that as motivation. I mean, rah, rah, rah. We stomped on a towel, so what? That’s what we were supposed to do in our house."

Rah, rah, rah, Kearse is right. This isn't something that players care about. After the coin is flipped on Thursday night, no one's going to give a second thought to the Terrible Towel, it's 2008 stomping, or anything related to it. It'll earn LenDale White a healthy round of boos and perhaps a cup of Iron City dumped on him, but that's about as far as it goes.

Beloved fan tradition or not, it's still just cloth that's dyed yellow. If LenDale White stomps on it or folds it into the shape of a swan, it will not alter the outcome of a football game.

This blog post got my blood boiling so I had to post it. I can't wait for LenDale to meet Mr. Harrison, Mr. Clark and Mr. Polamalu in a few hours!

He may have plenty of time to stomp another towel. I mean, if he can't contribute to the team on the field, he's gonna have plenty of time to run his mouth to the fans in the stands, who will undoubtedly be telling him what a great player he is.

I know. The author's comments made me just about as mad as White's.
