Default A British view of bho

Some samples of the writings of Gerald Warner. I'd be curious to get some comments from our British SF members.

Barack Obama and the CIA: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

Gerald Warner is an author, broadcaster, columnist and polemical commentator who writes about politics, religion, history, culture and society in general.

April 24th, 2009

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama’s problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.

That is why he opened Pandora’s Box by publishing the Justice Department’s legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda.

“Don’t be discouraged by what’s happened the last few weeks,” he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them - or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.

So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers.

Obama promised his CIA audience that nobody would be prosecuted for past actions. That has already been contradicted by leftist groups with a revanchist ambition to put Republicans, headed if possible by Condoleezza Rice, in the dock. Talk about playing party politics with national security. Martin Scheinin, the United Nations special investigator for human rights, claims that senior figures, including former vice president Dick Cheney, could face prosecution overseas. Ponder that - once you have got over the difficulty of locating the United Nations and human rights within the same dimension.

President Pantywaist Obama should have thought twice before sitting down to play poker with Dick Cheney. The former vice president believes documents have been selectively published and that releasing more will prove how effective the interrogation techniques were. Under Dubya’s administration, there was no further atrocity on American soil after 9/11.

President Pantywaist’s recent world tour, cosying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America’s enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners. His only enemies are fellow Americans. Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

Barack Obama preaches the gospel of abortion at Notre Shame

May 18th, 2009

Sometimes something so gruesome is perpetrated in public life that the sick bag is an inadequate repository for one’s involuntary reaction. Under the Blair regime this was an almost daily problem. Now, however, there is a practitioner of gorge-rising hypocrisy on the world stage so shameless he makes the Great Charlatan look like an amateur. His name is Barack Hussein Obama.

Yesterday, at the formerly Catholic University of Notre Dame, this snake-oil salesman carried the gospel of abortion into what should have been the most hostile territory on the face of the earth but which, thanks to the great apostasy known as the Second Vatican Council and the self-interest of Democrat-supporting pseudo-Catholics, was a favourable environment. To the rapturous applause of those who put establishment endorsement before the most basic human decencies, Obama preached his message of consensual infanticide.

“Part of the problem, of course” orated The One, “lies in the imperfections of man - our selfishness, our pride, our stubbornness, our acquisitiveness, our insecurities, our egos, all the cruelties large and small that those of us in the Christian tradition understand to be rooted in original sin.” And the solution to so much human imperfection? Straightforward: take one eight-month-old baby, pierce its skull with a scalpel, vacuum out its brains until its skull collapses - and, hey, hope! Change we can believe in. Obama unapologetically reiterated his pro-abortion stance.

The principal of Notre Shame, as genuine Catholics now call it, Father John I Jenkins, CSC - the most despised priest in the Catholic world - tried his best to put a good face on Obama’s visit and his derisory honorary degree. Outside, among the protesters arrested was Norma McCorvey - “Roe” in the Roe v Wade case in the US Supreme Court in 1973 which introduced the permissive abortion law in America which she now deplores.

You could not ask for a more striking antithesis than this woman being arrested outside the university while Jenkins and the Vatican II “Catholics” inside welcomed and feted the United States’ leading proponent of abortion. However, like so many other Obama initiatives this month, this event has blown up in his face. Such has been the focus on abortion since Obama courted this controversy that American opinion has finally experienced a revulsion.

For the first time since Gallup began to survey attitudes on abortion in the United States in 1995, a majority of respondents now identify themselves as pro-life. The figures in this weekend’s poll are: pro-life 51 per cent; pro-abortion 42 per cent. Perhaps Barack Obama has a role dictated by destiny after all.

Barack Obama sells out America and its loyal allies to favour leftists

July 2nd, 2009

Barack Obama’s foreign policy blundering is now verging on the surreal. When Manuel Zelaya, the socialist president of Honduras, was overthrown, Obama first declared himself “deeply concerned”, then denounced the coup as illegal; now, with the support of the Obama White House, the Organisation of American States has given Honduras a three-day deadline to reinstate Zelaya. This is madness.

Zelaya was unseated by the army, but this was no ordinary military coup. The armed forces were carrying out a decision of the Honduran Supreme Court after it had declared unconstitutional a referendum Zelaya was attempting to hold to extend the length of time he could stay in office. This is a well-known ploy among leftist Latin American leaders in the mould of Hugo Chavez, the Marxist president of Venezuela.

By declaring that the Honduran constitution does not permit such a populist coup by the president, the Supreme Court was upholding the rule of law. Zelaya was attempting to subvert it. By removing him, the army upheld the constitution. Does Obama believe he has the power to overrule the US Supreme Court and the American Constitution by extending his period in office by plebiscite? If not, why should the Honduran constitution be disregarded by that country’s president?

Zelaya is a Chavez-style leftist, aiming at taking Honduras out of the American sphere of influence and into alliance with Marxist Venezuela. Now it emerges his strongest ally is the American president. This is perverse beyond belief and deeply damaging to America’s interests. I ask again: why does Barack Obama hate America?

I thought this would be about Afghanistan, and perhaps it should be. There is little ideology involved in the game he's playing right now with that Country, it's VERY black and white, right or wrong, and not open to interpretation.

Back in the Spring he made a strong, clear and firm vow that we would "finish the job with resolve" in Afghanistan, and that he would consult with, and heed the advice of, his generals.

HOWEVER, fast forward about 6 months, and McChrystal's report leaks out, and in it he calls for a big surge in troops in order to accomplish Obama's earlier stated goal. Only now, public opinion has turned, and his liberal base is balking at Afghanistan (remember, Obama always said that this was the "right war"), so, in turn, now Obama is balking.

What to do? Piss off the liberals and do what's right and what he said he would do and deploy more troops? Or kowtow to the wonks and weenies and maintain status quo, which basically means we lose everything we've fought for for 8 years, and surrender the country back to the Taliban?

He can't blame this on Bush no matter what...this became HIS war when he openly accepted responsibility for it earlier this year.

I HOPE he grows some balls and does what's right here...but there's little reason to believe a political animal is going to change his stripes.

Mostly, I think this is because part of being a liberal in the up-and-coming generation is having a self-effacing attitude that America is screwed up and we ought to prostrate ourselves in front of everyone we've offended (read: foreigners, the poor, women and minorities) and beg for forgiveness.

It's basically a nationwide case of white man's guilt. As a liberal, you don't even have to be 100% white to have it -- just having privileges like money and power are going to bring out the same guilt regardless.
