Ward says he won't hit opponents low

Hines Ward laid such a vicious hit on Cincinnati's Keith Rivers last year that the rookie linebacker was lost for the season with a broken jaw. It also prompted the NFL to put in rule making blindside blocks targeted at the head illegal. Ward said Wednesday that he would do it again if the only alternative was taking out his knees. "If I get another opportunity to hit somebody, I am going to take it," Ward said. "I am not going to go low on anybody. To me, that is an unwritten rule or kind of code of things you don't do around the league, especially when they aren't watching." Ward referenced an illegal crack back block that Brett Favre put on Houston's Eugene Wilson during a preseason game that cost Favre $10,000. "The Brett Favre incident when he went low ... I wouldn't never try to do that," Ward said.

There are only seven players on the 53-man roster who played with receiver Plaxico Burress when he was with the Steelers. His former teammates, though, felt bad for Burress after learning of his 24-month sentence on gun charges brought down on him Monday. "I have given him my support and prayers," said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who played with Burress for one year. "It is a shame that this had to happen. I wish him all of the best, if there is such a thing where he is going."

The NFL made a couple of scoring changes in last week's game against the Bears. Safety Tyrone Carter was credited with a sack late in the first half when Jay Cutler scrambled and was tackled before the line of scrimmage. It originally was ruled a run. Also, Willie Parker was charged with a fumble late in the first quarter in which he recovered.

The team moved its practice ahead one hour Thursday as a concession to the G-20 summit.

Not practicing for the Steelers were DE Aaron Smith, S Troy Polamalu, Ward and Carter. WR Limas Sweed (foot) and LB Lawrence Timmons (ankle) were limited.

I can honestly say that I thought the Bears would be a bigger threat than Cincy. so far I was half right. I just don't have faith in Cincy.
