Default Anthony Madison/Carey Davis- Special Teams

a majority was glad to dump madison for returner logan, and carey davis for anyone who could resemble a fullback.

we have our returner, and david johnson has been our FB/TE in favor of davis (who was recently re-signed to replace summers).

both do well.

but our special teams KO coverage has suffered.

its really no mystery why we have given up 2 returns in 2 consecutive weeks. it is a zero sum game and we have subtracted from one area to add to others.

the steelerfans who constantly bitch about everything need to figure this out.

while i am happy with logan as a returner, and johnson as a FB, i openly worried about dumping 2 great special teamers in madison and davis.

sometimes you dont know what you got til its gone.

I hear ya Tony, ST is really starting to worry me. That can be a back breaker in a tight playoff game. We were set to take that game over today and gave Minn life with their return.

it was almost a back breaker today if they would have scored at the end, i mean i was so happy for 5 mins, then BOOM! return TD, im wondering what exactly our prob is on ST, doesnt carey davis play on them still, now that hes back?

Carey Davis was inactive today. He'll probably be inactive as long as DJ Johnson is healthy.

now that he is back, 7th round rookie pick david johnson, has been healthy. carey davis was inactive last weekend, and i didnt see him today, but i did see johnson, which tells me, he was in sweatpants once again.

EDIT- before i check tube 517 confirms he was deactivated.

davis and madison definitely made a difference on st's. like i said, we gain in one area and lose in another.

I never liked the idea of cutting madison, but it is what it is

Too bad he's now stuck in cleveland....

Yeah, the special teamers of notice last season were Bailey, Fox, Madison IMO. We still have 2 of the 3 and should be able to see a young guy like Burnett, Mundy, Lewis or Ratliff step up and fill the role of Madison.

But the real question to me is where the heck is Patrick Bailey been on special teams??? I think he needs to be deactivated and reminded that he is as easy of a cut as a hot knife thru butter.

Tony, I bet Carey Davis made approx 8 special teams tackles last season. Maybe somebody can find stats on that, but again I seem to remember Bailey, Fox, Madison being the real solid cover guys last season.

Apart from our defense that looked terribly out-of-pace in the first three-four games, our Special Teams (particullary KO/P coverage ones) are beginning to look more and more as our next achille's heel.
We've done it yesterday with the Vikes, we've done it with the Browns. We've got to fix this. I'm getting so frustrating when, after a TD scored I have to fear a return for touchdown by the opponent on the very next play!

I watched Bailey give up on the pursuit on that TD return. Uncharacteristic of him but that's what he did.
