Default Steelers look to get back to winning ways against Chiefs

Justin Sobieralski-WPAathletics.comvSTAFF

PITTSBURGH- It’s week 11, and after suffering their first loss at home last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pittsburgh Steelers hope to bounce back on the road against the 2-7 Kansas City Chiefs.

In a shocking development out of Kansas City, who recently cut ties with troubled running back Larry Johnson, the Chiefs will also be without star receiver Dwayne Bowe, as he was suspended for four games on Tuesday due to violating of the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Bowe’s agent went on record stating that Chiefs’ receiver has only been taking a weight loss supplement, not any kind of steroid or performance enhancing drug.

It was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN that Bowe will not appeal the suspension.

Bowe currently leads the team with receptions, yards, and touchdowns with 33 catches for 466 yards and four touchdowns. Bowe’s role will most likely be filled by both Bobby Wade and newly acquired Chris Chambers. Chambers was signed by the Chiefs a few weeks back after the San Diego Chargers released him.

This marks the first time the Steelers will face quarterback Matt Cassel in a Chiefs’ uniform. Last season, Cassel and the New England Patriots lost to the Steelers in a lopsided 33-10 victory in Foxboro.

The Steelers will mostly like be without their star safety, Troy Polamalu, as he injured a ligament in his left knee during the Cincinnati game last Sunday. This is the same knee injury that caused the Steelers’ safety to miss four games earlier in the season.

Polamalu was expected to only miss this week’s game in Kansas City and be back in week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens, however, it looks like Polamalu may not be ready in time to face the Ravens in an important divisional match up. Safety Ty Carter would start in Polamalu’s absence.

The Chiefs are 0-4 at home and are looking to get their first home victory at the expense of the Super Bowl Champions, while the Steelers look to improve their road record to 3-2.

In head to head match-ups all time, the Steelers have the edge over the Chiefs 17-8, with a winning percentage of .680.

With the loss of Johnson, and Bowe as well, look for the Steelers to dominate the game defensively, despite being without Polamalu. Kansas City’s offense is producing only 266.6 yards per game, while the Steelers’ defense is only allowing 277.4 yards per game. Only the New York Giants allow less yards per game than the Steelers.

Kansas City’s defense is currently giving up 375.6 yards per game, good for 27th best in the NFL, all while opponents rush on average for 141 yards per game. Expect Ben Roethlisberger, and the rest of the offense, to have one of the better offensive performances of the year.

Final score: 24-10

Quick note: The Steelers also made a roster move this week. The Steelers have parted ways with linebacker and special teams’ player, Arnold Harrison, and signed linebacker Donovan Woods from the practice squad. Woods originally signed with the Steelers back in 2008.
