Default Fans saying "we" or "us" when talking about their favorite team

I got in an argument with my friend the other day when I said "We finally made it to the Superbowl." He replied with, "Are you on the roster?". Whats your opinion on this, is it ok for fans to talk like they are part of the team?

I think it's perfectly fine. Especially in a context like this. We're going to... you'll never...

If that ever happens again, where someone asks if you're on the roster, just immediately ask "are you a fan?"

It's all good. Heck, it's the emotion that fuels much of the smack on team message boards. Identities blur as emotion and passion take over.

I've debated this many times in my mind. I prefer to not refer to myself as part of a team when I'm not really on the roster. It sounds like I'm speaking on behalf of the team itself. That being said, I have no problems with other people saying it...that is unless they get a little carried away and start sounding like they're really a member of the team. Then it gets a bit annoying.

i think it's fine, because we are just as much a part of the team, without the fans the team is nothing. real fans don't come and go like players and coaches do, we pretty much pay their salaries by buying tickets and shit like that. that's why i think it's fine to for us fans to say we or us

To me, Ive known nothing else but We, Us, We're, when referring to my beloved Black n Gold. The fans are as much as part of the team as the players in a matter of speaking. Without the fans there would be no money to pay players to perform..and without players there would be nothing to support.

Anytime its Steelers talk, it will always be WE... as far as Im concerned.

I have debated this with many people and I think it's perfectly fine.

Its natural to say WE and US especially when you are a diehard fan....fans always have been and always will be a part of the game.....when someone questions it... don't sweat it...as long as you believe in saying it...

Its funny i was just reading another thread and about commented on someone over using the term us and we.. Then i see this post hehe.. Personally I constantly say us.. we.. etc as I feel I'm a part of the spirit that is the Pittsburgh Steelers. they've been a part of my life for so long I feel as if i know these guys personally. That's why it's gonna suck to not see Bettis as he's been like a brother to me.. Always there smiling big and highsteppin after that first down.. I just can't help to say WE are gonna win the SUPER BOWL and you can join US in Detroit to see it happen!

I try not to say it, but 25 years as a Seahawks fan and I slip pretty often. I've found that football fans tend to identify more with the team and say we and us often. Baseball fans, on the other hand, tend to be very anal about that sort of thing. Different mentality, even among fans of both sports. I've seen guys get reamed on baseball forums for talking about their team using "we".
