Default Team Unity: Affect On Success

I think one of the compelling aspects of this SB is the high degree of team unity within each team. This has come up in other threads and thought it should be its' own subject. There is a remarkable degree of unity on the Seahawks. It's been developing over the years but really jelled this year. Check out this link to an article about unity on the Seahawks.

I completely agree...Bettis has said this this year's team is the closest that he's ever been a part of. I think it's just knowing and trusting your guys to get their job done, knowing they're gonna work 110% and they're relying on you to work 110%

it is interesting the mind frame and psychology of football teams and how it relates to winning. especially with so many teams being equal, i think team unity and that bond and trust is the main reason we have these 2 teams remaining in the sb. i wouldnt expect either team to allow a barret robbind or eugene robinson type situation develop right before the sb.

Here is what Bear Bryant says about it:

"I think the most important thing of all for any team is a winning attitude. The coaches must have it. The players must have it. If you have dedicated players who believe in themselves, you don't need a lot of talent." -- Paul "Bear" Bryant

We've all seen talent laden teams that didn't win (e.g. the NYY). The teams that worked the hardest and had the most desire, passion, cohesiveness, won. To some extent that's why the White Sox won the WS, why the Steelers are in the SB, why the Seahawks are in the SB. Enough talent and then some but the killer ingredient is the key.

You would have to ask seahawks fan, I can`t speak for their team. But I can`t imagine any team being as close as this one. Just the fact that everyone is trying to win one for the BUS! This team will prevail! Go Steelers!

Team unity for the Steelers has been awesome this season but that's to be expected. Rarely, if ever, do you hear players on this team criticize each other or the coahes/front office. There was a little friction when the team was losing, mainly from Cedric Wilson asking why he was brought in, but it didn't matter to Whiz or anyone on the staff. Come playoff time, Wilson started getting balls thrown his way.

For all Cowher's perceived flaws, losing the team has never been mentioned. Pittsburgh is lucky because players know that if they raise too much hell they'll be gone. The fact that Pittsburgh maintains continuity from season to season, coordinators aside, has to lend itself to cohesiveness.

I'm sure there have been teams that won the SB even though players hated each other but this squad doesn't seem like that's ever an issue. Congrats to everybody from the Rooney's on down is deserved and I think this season just shows what is possible if everybody buys in to the team concept and puts their own self-interest to the side.
