Default A poem about the "Bus"

This song is sung to the tune of Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler". A friend sent me this today and I thought it was just great. Unfortunately I don't know who to give credit to for writing this, so if you know, please post it. I looked to see if this was already posted, but I didn't see it. Also, sorry if it's in the wrong spot.

Enjoy!!

On a cool winter's evening, on a bus bound for Motown
I met up with a player; we were both too pumped to sleep.
So we took turns staring out the window at the Nation.
The excitement overtook him, and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made a life out of trouncing through the defense
And leading my teammates, when they were down and out.
So if you don't mind my sayin', that we never stopped believin'
That when we go to the big show, we won't leave any doubt.

So I raised up my gold towel, and I saluted that old warrior,
Then he shook his head and smiled because he doesn't know defeat.
That bus it keeps on rollin' and the pistons keep on pumpin'
And in his heart he knows that there's just one more team to beat.

You got to know when to pick 'em, know when to blitz 'em,
Know when to throw the ball, and know when to run.
You never count your rings, when you're sittin' on the sidelines.
One more black and gold victory will get that one for the thumb.

Now, every player knows, that the secret to surviving
Is to 'waltz with the one who brung ya' to the dance.
Just like the quiet promise, from the young general to the soldier,
'I'll get you to the big show. Just give us one more chance.'

The whole Steelers nation embraced that powerful warrior
They all called him the bus, even though his name's Jerome.
They said, "It's okay now, to rest your weary body.
You've given us your all. It's time to get you back home."

So when he finished playing, he went back to his hometown.
Hung up his cleats and his number 36.
And somewhere on that gridiron, the warrior was victorious.
And with his final win he yelled, "You gotta go for number 6!"

You got to know when to run it, know when to gun it.
Know when it's time to say, "That was my final game."
For the black and gold faithful, he holds a special place in our hearts.
There's just one more stop for the Bus, and that's in the football
Hall of Fame.
