NFL Notebook: Steelers' Parker helps Santa in his hometown
Holmgren hired by Browns; Ex-Seahawks and Packers coach to take team president role

Steelers

To folks in his North Carolina hometown, Willie Parker's most memorable move may be somewhere other than on the field for the Steelers. The Sampson Independent reports that Parker, a Clinton native, donated thousands of dollars in toys and bikes after a large number of presents were stolen from a local community center around Halloween. Sampson Center director Tim Boykin said Parker read a newspaper story about the theft. Parker played his high school football at Clinton High School.

The Steelers announced that long snapper Greg Warren and wide receiver Limas Sweed will miss the remainder of the season. Warren, a fifth-year pro, has been placed on the reserve/injured list after his anterior cruciate ligament was torn on the final play of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Second-year wide receiver Sweed has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.

The Steelers will add another minority partner to their new stable of ownership, although they have not revealed the name of the shareholder.
Holmgren hired by Browns

Mike Holmgren has decided to see if he can fix the Cleveland Browns. The Super Bowl-winning coach accepted a job to become the club's president yesterday, joining a franchise needing a major makeover after a decade of losing.

Browns owner Randy Lerner said current president Mike Keenan will transition to the role of chief financial officer. "We will spend the rest of the week finalizing the details of the agreement and will make a formal announcement next week," Lerner said.

It's still not known what affect Holmgren's hiring will have on first-year Cleveland coach Eric Mangini, who improved to 3-11 Sunday after a 41-34 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Seahawks long snapper Kevin Houser is hoping to be out of the hospital in time for Christmas Eve after doctors re-inflated his collapsed lung. ... Dallas cut place-kicker Nick Folk and replaced him with Shaun Suisham, a former Cowboy. ... Chicago defensive end Adewale Ogunleye will miss the rest of the season because of a fracture in his lower left leg. ... Yeah? Well, I bet a power running back would've gotten those kids better presents.

If anything, you are consistent.
