Week 2 - Game Report ![]() 1:00 PM ET, Semptember 16, 2012 Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA CBS ![]() ![]() ![]() New Orleans Saints (1-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) Steelers edge New Orleans in contest ![]() Rashard Mendenhall unleashed havoc in the second half gaining 160 yards Game Photos Box Score - 07 - 07 - 07 - 03- 24 - 07 - 10 - 09 - 00- 26PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... In the final three minutes with Pittsburgh edging New Orleans 26-24 Rashard Mendenhall drove 65 yards on 7 plays to put time off the clock for the victory formation. Game Ball Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball a career high 32 times for 160 yards. He averaged 5 yards per carry and had a longest gain of 21 yards that sealed the deal. The Pittsburgh Steelers faced the New Orleans Saints in there home season opener. The Saints are known for their high octane offense. Not today as they were restricted to 203 total yards and got lucky with a kickoff returned 90 yards for a touchdown. In what was another close game for the Steelers they improve to 2-0. They opended the game and ended their drive with a screen pass to Reggie Bush who ran in it for a touchdown against his former team. Did they get lucky with Drew Brees going off with an injury? Maybe but Terrelle Pryor didn't do so bad, Terrelle and Drew Brees evaded getting sacked which means the Steelers still have no sacks after two games into the regular season. Jerry Gray the defensive Co-Ordinator doesn't blitz much but the coverage again is the best in the NFL. The Steelers targeted the right side of the New Orleans Saints defense and gained most of there yards that direction "I just kept finding holes and burst through them" Mendenhall told press reporters. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns as the offense destroyed a weak Saints defense. Next Week they travel to the West Coast to face the 1-1 San Diego Chargers. The Steelers signed Greg Wesley who came out of retirement in hopes of stopping the poor return coverage that haunted them in the 2009 and some parts of the 2010 season. Week 3 - Game Report ![]() 4:05 PM ET, Semptember 23, 2012 Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA CBS ![]() ![]() ![]() Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) at San Diego Chargers (1-1) Steelers revenge playoff loss shut out San Diego ![]() Philip Rivers threw for 105 yards as the Offense struggled to get going Game Photos http://img199.imageshack.us/i/screen0015o.png/ http://img687.imageshack.us/i/screen0014.png/ Box Score - 07 - 07 - 07 - 03- 13 - 07 - 10 - 09 - 00- 00PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... The Steelers got the ball back with 2 minutes left and ran out the clock. Game Ball Janoris Jenkis had 1 tackle and forced a fumble inside the Steelers 5 yard line that preserved a shut out. The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the San Diego Chargers, they got shut out, next season they faced the San Diego Chargers again but the Chargers were shut out. The San Diego Chargers were overpowered and struggled the say the least at gaining just 170 yards on the day. It didn't look good as the Steelers lost Troy Polamalu earlier to a game injury and Later Janoris Jenkins to an abdominal tear (12 weeks). The Steelers improve to 3-0 and take the lead in the AFC with the Colts (3-0), Titans (3-0) and surpringly the Jets (3-0). Janoris Jenkins has been placed on injured reserve. |

Week 4 - Game Report ![]() 1:00 PM ET, Semptember 30, 2012 Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA CBS ![]() ![]() ![]() Miami Dolphins (1-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) Steelers rest starters after 1st period, beat out Dolphins for the win ![]() Lawrence Timmons let the Dolphins feel his presence as he was a systematic problem all game Game Photos http://yfrog.com/j0screen0018p Box Score - 00 - 06 - 03 - 03- 12 - 13 - 00 - 00 - 03- 19PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... Ben Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass to put the Steelers up 13-0 halfway through the first quarter, the Dolphins were plagued by bad defense and turnovers. Game Ball Lawrence Timmons swarmed the ball carrier all day carrying out a high level of production in recording 10 tackles, when needed he also blitzed heavily and sacked the Quarterback 4 times. The Pittsburgh Steelers only needed their franchise Quarterback for one quarter, then choose to give Colt Breenan some playing time. They sacked the Miami Dolphins more than half the points they got. The Steelers decided to forgoe the decision of keeping Ben Roethlisberger in the game and preserving Dennis Dixon and wanted to see what they had out of Colt Breenan. Although he threw 2 interceptions and completed only 36% of his passes he managed the game well enough to allow the Steelers to improve to 4-0. They travel to Atlanta next week. Week 5 - Game Report ![]() 1:00 PM ET, October 7, 2012 Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA CBS ![]() ![]() ![]() Pittsburgh Steelers (4-0) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2) Steelers grind out a lucky win ![]() William Gay was a key factor in shutting out the dangerous Matt Ryan and forcing 2 turnovers Game Photos http://yfrog.com/1fscreen0020ip http://yfrog.com/0tscreen0027tp http://yfrog.com/31screen0026p Box Score - 00 - 07 - 07 - 10- 24 - 03 - 00 - 00 - 00- 00PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... With 4 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter and leading 14-3, Jacquizz Rodgers converted a 3rd down and ran 24 yards to set up a field goal to bury the Falcons 17-3. However in the last minute Matt Ryan threw an interception to William Gay who returned it for a touchdown. Game Ball Lawrence Timmons swarmed the ball carrier all day carrying out a high level of production in recording 10 tackles, when needed he also blitzed heavily and sacked the Quarterback 4 times. Key Stat The Pittsburgh Steelers could only manage 80 total yards going into halftime, 28 rushing and were 0 for 6 on third downs, both teams had uner 25% converted on the day. Another key factor was turnovers as the Falcons commited 4. 3 were by 2011 MVP Matt Ryan by throwing the football. Noteworthy Falcons Linebacker Curtis Lofton led the game with 12 tackles, 1 sack and an interception but his efforts were by nothing as the Steelers forced the Falcons into a shakey game. William Gay restricted Roddy White to 4 receptions for 38 yards and took the ball away twice. Next Week The 5-0 Pittsburgh Steelers will grind it out against hated rivals the 3-2 New England Patriots... the 2-3 Atlanta Falcons face off against the 4-1 Cleveland Browns |

ESPN PREVIEW ![]() ![]() ![]() Two of the biggest franchises of the 21st century collide in Gillette Stadium as the 3-2 New England Patriots will try to hand the 5-0 Pittsburgh Steelers their first loss of the season on ESPN Monday Night Football. Matchups Pittsburgh Defense vs New England Offense The Steelers defense are at it's best and are only giving up 11.7 points per game and 204.6 yards per game, the defense is pretty impenetrable and it will go up against a offense renowned for a high prolific passing attack something that has not existed this season as Tom Brady and the Patriots are ranked 17th in total offense. They are still getting it done by just about scoring 25 points a game, but against a stellar defense it's no match. Look for William Gay and Troy Polamalu to blank Randy Moss the whole game whilst Tom Brady will throw most balls to Joe Burnett who has allowed 4 catches last week against the Atlanta Falcons. Advantage:Pittsburgh Santonio Holmes vs Chris Gamble ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the more intriguing matchups this week. A underperforming Steelers offense that is still getting it done is scary, but there averaging only 263.3 yards per game. Santonio Holmes has recieved the bulk of the receptions but has a low average per carry. Whilst Mike Wallace remains heavily the deep threat of the team since 2009 look for Julios Jones to make a splash instead of Santonio this week. With the Steelers having a strong 3 wide reciever set it's not functioning consistently this year and against a cornerback duo of Chris Gamble, Nate Clements and Leigh Bodden it might not be great this week either. Advantage:New England Rolando McClain vs Matt Forte ![]() ![]() ![]() The Pittsburgh Steelers run defense has allowed a low 72.4 yards per game but have allowed Ronnie Brown and Michael Turner to have 70+ games with some good carries. The New England Patriots run game in a pass first offense is averaging around 113.7 yards per game. To set up the pass against a stingy Steelers defense Matt Forte might need to come and show up tonight. Advantage:Pittsburgh Rashard Mendenhall vs Jerod Mayo ![]() ![]() ![]() The Steelers have used Rashard Mendenhall alot more each year and this year he is averaging 21 carries per game and a high 4.2 yars per carry, last week he was entirely shut down and seemed consistent this season, after a great early start in the year his performence took a steady decrease the past week. Look for Jacquizz Rodgers and Reggie Bush to take a few carries to relieve Mendenhall and keep the offense fresh. Advantage:New England Mike Tomlin vs Monte Kiffin ![]() ![]() ![]() In five seasons as the Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has won 2 super bowls, 4 divisional titles and looks poised for another deep playoff run. The defense since 2007 has been ranked #1 five years straight. Since Monte Kiffin has taken over the Patriots have looked shakey at times and are chasing the 4-1 Jets for the divisional title. Although there offense has not looked great this year there defense has certainly improved and are ranked #7 in total defense allowing 283.2 yards per game. Advantage:Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Steelers vs New England Patriots The Steelers look like they are already about to clinch there division with Cincinnati and Baltimore performing so bad but the dark horse and the emergence of the Cleveland Browns are only trailing the Pittsburgh Steelers by 1 game. It's a must win game for the Steelers to keep the #1 seed in their division and keep up with the 5-0 Titans and 5-0 Colts. The New England Patriots are severley struggling this year but a win tonight at home would not only boost their momentum but chances at a higher seed with a decent record of 4-2 and possibly 5-2 beating the Ravens heading into the bye week. Advantage:Pittsburgh |

Week 6 - Game Report ![]() 9:00 PM ET, October 15, 2012 Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MS ESPN ![]() ![]() ![]() Pittsburgh Steelers (5-0) at New England Patriots (3-2) Steelers overcome 11 point deficit for the last second field goal ![]() Rashard Mendenhall rocked it out in New England with over 30 carries and 140 yards Game Photos http://yfrog.com/0iscreen0032p http://yfrog.com/jyscreen0033p http://yfrog.com/16screen0034p Box Score - 07 - 10 - 00 - 14- 31 - 00 - 14 - 14 - 00- 28PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... With 4 seconds left in the 4th Quarter, with the scores tied at 28-28 Lones Seiber hit a 28 yard field goal sending the Steelers home the winners. Game Ball Troy Polamalu recovered a fumble on the Steelers 3 yard line, intercepted a pass in the endzone and forced a fumble that was taken back for a touchdown to get the Steelers back in the game... Jerd Mayo had 13 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and an interception. Key Stat Turnovers, they were costly the Steelers commited 6 turnovers, 5 were by 3 different running backs fumbling in the cold weather whilst the Patriots had 4 turnovers. Of the 10 turnovers 7 were commited within there own 30 yard lines. Noteworthy Santonio Holmes had 9 receptions for 177 yards and a touchdown, Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 300 yards and Rashard Mendenhall ran for 140 yards. Next Week The 6-0 Pittsburgh Steelers will host divisional rivals the 5-1 Cleveland Browns... the 3-3 New England Patriots travel to 1-4 Baltimore Ravens. |

![]() When the Cleveland Browns travel to Heinz Field this sunday they will try to do something they have never accomplished since remerging back into the league just over 13 years ago. Take hold of 1st place in the AFC North. The Browns are coming off a big win against Atlanta and in consecutive weeks they valiantly crushed the Jets and the Patriots and whooped the Ravens 33-6 in the season opener. There opening first half schedule isn't easy as they face the Ravens next week on Monday Night Football but it's evident that the team are balling right now and will ride into Pittsburgh full of momentum whom they swept for the first time in season history in 2009 and a season later a second time. Pittsburgh are coming off wins against a strong opening schedule with wins against Cincinnati, New Orleans, Atlanta and New England, they beat there opponents a combined points total of 134-87. Whilst the Cleveland Offense has struggled to get going they are putting up more points on the board and gaining 292 yards per game opposed to the 303.5 yards the 6-0 Pittsburgh Steelers have produced. That isn't the main part of the problem that needs solving if the Browns are to beat the Steelers as the defense has only given up one 300 yard game this year and are only giving up 221.6 yards per game. What's more frightening is that whilst the Patriots put up 200 yards during the first quarter, Mike Tomlin and Jerry Gray made such changes they only allowed 102 total yards in the second quarter. The offense of the Pittsburgh Steelers might of posted 500 total yards but the running backs 6 fumbles nearly cost them a victory. It won't be snowing so expect Ben Roethlisberger to test Cleveland Browns corners Eric Wright, Brandon McDonald and Ras I Dowling. *Fact of the Day* Troy Smith has played for 3 teams, he is currently playing for the Cleveland Browns, his other two teams he has played for have been Baltimore (2007-2009) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (2010). This makes him the only Quarterback in the league to play his entire career in the AFC North division. |

Week 7 - Game Report ![]() 1:00 PM ET, October 21, 2012 Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA CBS ![]() ![]() ![]() Cleveland Browns (5-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-0) Steelers shut out Rival, slam door in face ![]() The Browns could simply not contain Mike Wallace all game, he was a loose dawg Game Photos http://yfrog.com/0bscreen0051wp Box Score - 00 - 00 - 00 - 00- 00 - 03 - 06 - 03 - 03- 18PITTSBURGH, PA — It was over when... With just 1:45 left in the third quarter and the Browns trailing by the score of 9-0, Ben Roethlisberger connected on a long bomb 33 yards to Mike Wallace to put the game to bed. The Steelers then rested their franchise Quarterback throughout the 4th quarter. Game Ball Mike Wallace had 6 receptions for 101 yards, which included the game winning 33 yard touchdown pass. Key Stat The Cleveland Browns could only convert 21.4% of their third downs which stalled there offensse all day. They averaged 3.4 yards per play as the Steelers defense was too much as they shut out the browns. Noteworthy Lones Seiber kicked all four field goals today and is now 16 of 17 for the season. Next Week The 7-0 Pittsburgh Steelers will hope to go 8-0 against the 0-6 Buffalo Bills... The 5-2 Cleveland Browns will look to complete the sweep against the 2-4 Ravens. |
