Default Rick Warren needs $900K in 48 hours

http://taxdollars.freedomblogging.co...-900000/48235/

Pastor Rick Warren urgently asks faithful for $900,000

It’s been a heck of a year for mega-pastor/bestselling author/power broker Rick Warren of the enormous Saddleback Church. It started out with Warren’s invocation at the historic inauguration of one President Barack Obama - and it concludes with Warren asking his flock to cough up nearly $1 million in just two days to keep the church out of the red.

“Dear Saddleback Family,” begins today’s missive from Warren. “THIS IS AN URGENT LETTER unlike any I’ve written in 30 years. Please read all of it and get back to me in the next 48 hours.

“I have thrilling news to share with you below but first some seriously bad news: With 10% of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated. Still, with wise management, we’ve stayed close to our budget all year. Then… this last weekend the bottom dropped out.

“On the last weekend of 2009, our total offerings were less than half of what we normally receive - leaving us $900,000 in the red for the year, unless you help make up the difference today and tomorrow.”

The church does not make its financial information public, so it’s impossible to tell just how big of a hole in the boat this $900,000 represents. A spokeswoman for Warren said the church does not release detail on its finances, so it’s hard to put the shortfall in context. (Suffice to say it may not represent a terribly significant portion of Saddleback’s annual budget, and that his personal appeal may well close the hole, and then some.)

In his letter, Warren goes on to detail the church’s accomplishments for the year, and then says:

It’s obvious that your giving through your church family is providing more “bang for the buck” than anything else you could support. It is no wonder that our ministry was named the top religious newsmaker of 2009 as reported by Associated Press.

YOU CAN HELP SAVE THE DAY 3 WAYS BEFORE JAN 1.

Click HERE right now to and give as large an end-of-the-year gift as you can to help avert this crisis. If we all do what God leads us to do, we’ll all be a part of a miracle.
Mail in your gift today. Gifts must be postmarked in 2009 to be posted as 2009 gifts for tax purposes. Mail to: 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest, CA 92630.
Drop your gift in the box at the front door of the Ministry Center at 1 Saddleback Parkway so you know for certain we get it TODAY or Thursday….
I love you so much. It is a deep privilege to be your pastor….

And, perhaps, a pain to be his accountant.

I suppose he should call Mr. Obama. As a Christian I wouldn't give that machine a cent. Non profit and no financial information made public. Here ya go Rick
Compare this to other Christian organizations (like JAARS that I have been involved with) that do show public financial accountability.

Shows just how much you know about him.

He has ceased taking a salary from the church. Matter of fact, he has paid back the church 25 years worth of salary, AND tithes 90% of his revenue from book sales, etc., keeping only 10% (Something that J.C. Penney originally did as well).

As far as the church is concerned, this budget lapse may represent 1 month, or even half a month's budget. It is the same amount my church is short by (and why I had to take half a salary this month).

THere are many out there who use Christianity as a money making scheme. By his actions, Rick Warren is not one of them.

Oh yeah, you ever think that what he IS asking for, is money to help the AIDS ministry, Homeless ministry, Rehab ministry, not to mention the scores of staff members he has that are getting paid just like regular people etc. in his church?

No.. it ALL has to be for his pockets.

Actually, what is meant, IMO, is that as a 501c3, no church or religious organization is required to file taxes with the IRS.

It is all part of that separation of church and state.

I understand, but when dealing with large amounts of money it would be very wise to make a financial report public.....just another safe step of accountability and stewardship.

If we all did "what God needs us to do", I'm doubtful that it would have anything to do with this man.

There are plenty of local people & causes that could use help. Why not get involved with that if one is so willing to open the wallet? People who write checks to annonymous entities are idiots. IMO. And personally I don't give a crap about his staff members to be honest with ya.

And you shouldn't... but it is also wrong to criticize him for asking for money from those who have said they wanted those ministries and staff members.

That is the point. If they want the ministries and the staff members to want them, then they need to support them. That is what the letter is about IMO, I know because I am in the exact same situation in my church.

And its not about giving to anonymous entities. It is about CHURCH MEMBERS giving to their OWN church, a church which THEY are involved in the specific ministries of working with youth, adults, divorcees, homeless people, AIDS, etc. etc.

There is no anonymity about it. He isn't a TV evangelist.
