Hampton: Porter still has love for Steelers

By Mark Kaboly
MCKEESPORT DAILY NEWS
Saturday, January 2, 2010

Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter has been gone from the Steelers for three years, but his heart is still with the Black and Gold.

At least that's the opinion of Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton, who played alongside Porter from 2001-2006.

"In the offseason, I guarantee he is hanging out with us more than he is hanging out with his new teammates," Hampton said.

Hampton expects a lot of trash talking by Porter on Sunday, especially during warm-ups, but he said fans and media shouldn't always believe what they see.

"It's a show for you all," Hampton said. "We don't get into talking smack. We're too cool for that. We are better than that."

Porter has played against his former team once since he was released during the spring of 2007.

Is playing the Steelers still a special game for Porter?

"He is going to act like it is," Hampton said. "He is definitely going to make you all think that, but that's him. He likes that. That's what 'Peezy' does."

Porter may be playing his last game for the Dolphins Sunday.

He is due a $1 million roster bonus and a $200,000 workout bonus in 2010 to go along with his $3.6 million salary. He is being pushed for playing time by former CFL star Cameron Wake.

Hampton said his friend isn't saying much about that.

"He ain't talking, man," Hampton said. "He has one more game, and he is going to go out and play hard."

Defensive end Brett Keisel missed his third consecutive practice with a stinger, but he still holds out hope that he will play Sunday when the Steelers travel to Miami.

"I would like to, but we are waiting to see," Keisel said. "Each day, it gets better."

Keisel was fitted with a neck roll attached to his shoulder pads to prevent his head from snapping back and possibly aggravating the injury.

Safety Troy Polamalu is also holding out hope he will return against the Dolphins, but his return appears highly unlikely.

"It wouldn't be the first time I ever played injured," Polamalu said. "I wouldn't be the only unhealthy guy out there."

Guard Chris Kemoeatu participated fully in practice and is expected to return to the lineup after missing two games with both a knee and arm injury. He is listed as questionable as are Keisel and Polamalu.

Hines Ward, nursing a hamstring injury, said he will play against the Dolphins and is listed as probable as are LB Rocky Boiman (calf), DE Travis Kirschke (calf) and RB Willie Parker (shoulder). For Miami, RB Ricky Williams is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.

After hearing what LaMarr Woodley said about he expects both Cincinnati and New England to lay down this weekend in order to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs, Bengals defensive tackle Tank Johnson responded by saying he planned to give Woodley a call to set him straight.

"Nobody called me yet," Woodley said. "I am good friends with Tank, and I am pretty sure I will see him in the offseason. I will joke with him in the offseason about it."

However, Woodley didn't back down from his comments.

"Sometimes, you have to speak what is on your mind," Woodley said.

QUOTABLE

"I am a better player because of Joey Porter. It was a pleasure to have him as a teammate. I always said when he was here that I never wanted to go against him, and I have had to a couple of times now. It is not fun because he is such a great player." Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said when asked about his former teammate.

DIGITS

82 Catches for Miami's Ted Ginn and Greg Camarillo

165 Catches for the Steelers' Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes
