Skip Bayless is a well renowned douchebag columnist.
Anyone could do what he does - put a negative spin on just about every aspect of the upcoming Superbowl - in a mostly factless, pointless fashion. I guess it somehow improves his standing with his editor if he gets lots of emails (most of which will be well deserved abuse) - and helps keep him in a job. He, and others like him, wrote similar columns about the Pats going to the SB - either they were useless no-hopers (2001) or they were just an 'ok team with no interesting individuals' (2003/04) As far as I'm concerned this is not the ideal SB for one reason - the Patriots aren't in it! Apart from that you couldnt ask for much more - two very deserving teams who are at the tops of their games slugging it out. Bring it on NM

They've been great for a while now, three Super Bowls' worth of great. But only this season have the New England Patriots become The Show, the must-see team of stars, pretty boys and reformed bad boys. Suddenly, the Patriots are not simply great; they're compelling, fascinating, appearing to be almighty and a touch lawless. The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed. |

Good article, dead on. In fact "anticlimax" would be a compliment.

In 1975, if someone would have said the Steelers had 9 hall of fame candidates, people would have laughed too. It was a team with a lot of very good, young players. No one realized how good that team was until years later. Will this team have 9 hall of famers? who knows? But I know they're fun to watch. :-)

this probably isn't true for everyone, but it is for me...in the article he mentioned how the only people excited for this Super Bowl are Pittsburgh and Seattle fans. in other years when the Steelers aren't playing in the SB I don't get excited. I watch it and always have a team I root for, but it's not exciting for me

I also watch every superbowl but they are not nearly as exciting... Like last year I rooted for the Eagles just because I have a few friends from Philly and my hate for the Pats but I wasnt wrecked when they lost...

Oh, the HORROR! We might actually have two teams who are more concerned about playing football than acting like feuding sorority houses! It's not the fault of a disciplined football team to be respectful of their opponents in a world championship game--- it's the result of good coaching.
Just because Pittsburgh doesn't sign egocentric idiots who spout off about things they can't comprehend, then are subsequently laughed about in the media shouldn't take away from the very real football game we have ahead. Perhaps covering football isn't enough for this modern media? Maybe they now lack the sports knowledge to make interesting, informed commentary about the matchups that really matter. I've long joked about the pathetic writers who try to stir up totally irrelevant subject matter instead of just covering the !@#$ing GAME. Makes you wonder how some of those people ever got hired to cover sports. Mike Celzig at MSNBC is one of the worst sports writers I've ever read in my life, as an example. You can almost tell which days the guy forgets to take his bipolar meds. |
