Default Our welfare society...

So, I run over to the local Kroger to get a few items that we need at the house...coffee creamer, some milk, etc. I go up to the line to check out with my basket and in front of me are these two obese girls with pants that are about two sizes too small. They have a pile of brand name junk food. Doritos, Pepsi, Breyers ice cream, brand name sugary cereal, a cake, chips, etc. They also have a couple cartons of smokes. So, the one girl whips out the "Bridge" card which is Michigan's "food stamp" debit card. They pay for the food with that, then pull out a $100 bill to buy the cigarettes. I am f**king steaming at this point.

Why the hell are you using a welfare food debit card to buy brand name junk food and not the "Benjamin" you whipped out for the smokes? WTH??!!!!!

I am subsidizing laziness, obesity and other people's bad habits. When will this welfare bullshit just stop? I NEVER see someone in the store with one of those cards buying necessities and off brand stuff. I would be too embarrassed to do what they did.

Good thing come Monday I will be busting my ass at my job to subsidize their fat asses...

Never. It increases exponentially until the inevitable collapse.

It makes me very angry.

As someone who actually NEEDED welfare at one time, and was still busting my ass at two jobs, it makes me sick to see people abuse it.

I went for a long time with very little that I don't think I could ever take something like that for granted. It's pathetic.

You guys know that there are tens of thousands of Mexican nationals who have an address in Texas border towns... and just drive up to the US every month and pick up their welfare checks and then drive back to Mexico. AND they have full time jobs in Mexico as well. Its SO EASY to get over on the US Government its heart wrenching... especially when there are people that are really in need...

Blame our education system. It fails people for generations and perpetuates the cycle of ignorance. Junk food is marketed to poor people. What would you do to solve this problem?

yeah its gross, whats worse is that a lot of the people on foodstamps, and welfare, are actually intentionally scamming the system.

There are all kinds of ways that the people with foodstamps, turn the stamps into cash. Like, having someone buy exactly the same thing you need with cash, then swapping receipts, then returning the items you bought with foodstamps for cash. Walmart gets jacked up hard on that scam, and can't really fight it cause its hard to prove its happening.

That's a cop out and some poor excuses. How do you explain the fact that people from poor situations can go to college and become wealthy? What about the poor people on govt. assistance using it properly?

I am not about subsidizing laziness and ignorance. Frankly, if you are too stupid to realize what to eat and what to buy, with all the info in this world, that isn't my problem.

What I would do is take that assistance away from people who abuse it. Force them to figure out how to get off their asses and get motivated. There are jobs out there. I would also disallow those food stamp cards from being able to purchase certain foods. Currently they can't buy alcohol, why not junk food?

It's not our education system so much as it is poor parenting. If your parents raise you to believe it's ok to screw over the system, then you will believe it too. Fortunately some people break out of it. A guy I used to know, Tyrone, came from an impoverished family where his mom taught him and his sister how to stay on welfare to "beat the system". He was disgusted and moved out, taking two jobs to stay off of it, eventually bettering his life. His sister is still on welfare, and obese, lazy, unmotivated, etc. Part of the problem is they can get the handouts from the government and aren't provided any motivation to better themselves.

People need to start taking care of themselves, and not expecting the government to. Liberals always talk about being "fair". Yeah, right, let's be fair to everyone except the people who actually work and pay for this system. Let's punish them for being motivated.
