Default tom cable an upgrade over larry z?

he is supposed to meet with al davis tomorrow and many think he will be fired.

he did some decent things there with their 3 pronged rushing attack and squeezed some pretty good passing games out of gradkowski and charlie frye.

we gotta hire someone, right? last thing i want is another ex browns/rams assistant, or someone tomlin coached with in the college ranks 10 years ago.

Keep him away from the women. And the assistant coaches.

Nah, the DA decided not to file charges because he said it looked like the assistant coach broke his jaw by "falling on a chair." I don't know how much he got paid off for that, but I'm guessing it was significant.

Yeah, bring the guy here and he'll be throwing punches in no time.

Blogger says Steelers' Zierlein inadvertently forwarded porn to NFL officials
Wednesday, May 23, 2007
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers confirmed yesterday that one of their employees sent an "inappropriate e-mail" message from the club office to "unintended recipients" last week, violating club and NFL policy.

ProFootballTalk.com, an online blog written by Mike Florio, first reported that Steelers line coach Larry Zierlein inadvertently forwarded an e-mail he received from Doug Whaley, the Steelers' pro personnel coordinator, to multiple high-level team employees and their secretaries throughout the NFL, including commissioner Roger Goodell.

Whaley, according to Florio, received the pornographic video from someone outside the Steelers' organization and forwarded it to others, including Zierlein, who then sent it along to more e-mail addresses than he apparently intended Friday.

The Steelers' statement, issued by spokesman Dave Lockett, did not identify the club employee in question but did acknowledge that "the sending of inappropriate e-mail messages is against club and league policy, and the sender has been warned about the policy violation. The sender has issued an apology to all of the recipients."

No other Steelers executive would speak on the matter, Lockett said, and coach Mike Tomlin was unavailable after the team's first voluntary workout of the spring yesterday.

Florio reported Zierlein tried to recall his naughty message several times and then followed with an apology to those to whom he mistakenly delivered it.

Zierlein, 61, was on the field coaching yesterday morning when the Steelers practiced, but the team denied requests to speak to him. Whaley, an Upper St. Clair native who played at Pitt, is entering his 10th season in his job with the Steelers. He is attending Blesto Scouting Combine meetings in Florida and was unavailable.

Tomlin hired Zierlein Jan. 27. He has coached football 37 years, the past five in the NFL -- four as the offensive line coach with the Cleveland Browns and last season as the assistant line coach with the Buffalo Bills.

A club source told the Post-Gazette neither is likely to be disciplined over the matter by the team, and Lockett's statement seemed to confirm that.

Look for Mike Solari....O line coach from Seattle to get a phone call from Mike Tomlin.

Word is that Pete Carroll is bringing Pat Ruel with him to Seattle. Ruel is one of, if not the best O line coach in the NCAA.

Here is part of an article on Mike Solari, when he was hired as O line coach in Seattle, from KC. The guy learned from Bobb McKitrick of the 49ers.....one of the great O line coaches of the 80's and 90's.

"My job is to make sure the offensive line plays at a championship level," Solari said.

The Chiefs twice sent three offensive linemen to the Pro Bowl in the same season during Solari's nine-year run coaching the position under Marty Schottenheimer, Gunther Cunningham and Dick Vermeil.

But Solari's most powerful endorsement came from the man Holmgren ranked as the greatest offensive line coach in NFL history: the late Bobb McKittrick. The iconic San Francisco 49ers assistant won five Super Bowls during 21 seasons with the team before dying of cancer in 2000. Solari coached tight ends and served as assistant offensive line coach for the 49ers from 1992 to 1996.

"I went up to visit Bobb when he was sick, and he had worked closely with Mike on George Seifert's staff," Holmgren said. "He just said Mike's a special guy and he was really very impressed with Mike early on."

good call gonzo. he definitely has a nice resume. i would hope for tomlin to make a "splash play" in the hiring of his 3 new assistants, and this would seem to qualify (as would bobby april).
