Default new signing from CFL

I think we all missed this one today

http://www.winnipegsun.com/sports/fo.../12438626.html

Quote:
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have lost their third player to the NFL in the last nine days.

Special teams demon and backup linebacker Derrick Doggett signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after working out for them on Tuesday. The Blue and Gold lost defensive back Jonathan Hefney to the Detroit Lions and receiver Dudley Guice Jr. to the Indianapolis Colts last week.

CFL players going into their option year are eligible to sign with NFL squads until Feb. 15.

Doggett, who played his college ball for Mike Riley at Oregon State, joined the Bombers in late July and made an immediate impact on special teams. The former Edmonton Eskimo had 27 special teams tackles in 15 games.

Despite playing less than a full season, he finished second on the team in special teams tackles, only three behind leader Shawn Gallant.

He also had nine tackles, one interception and one forced fumble on defence.

Even though they don't have a special teams coach yet seems like they are already trying to fix there problems. He seems like he can tackle and that is what we need.

Hmmmm....

I see that he has played OLB/CB and SS.

Out of college is was listed as a strong safety prospect...6'2 212 lbs and ran a 4.57 forty. He had 232 total tackles in college and 8 interceptions. As a junior In 2006 he had 84 tackles, and as a senior in 2007 he had 93 total tackles.

I was calling for a hybrid player like Rennie Curran, small OLB that would convert to SS and most likely be a special teams demon to be a draft target. Cody Grimm is another in that mould. I like the thinking here, just dont know about the quality of the player.

Georgia -----Canada. I was on the right wavelength, just not in the same country or football league.

As a guy who lives up in Canada, I do tend to watch CFL games as they start in JUly. This kid is a good player. One thing that impresses me about CFL players is this, the CFL has a bigger field which translates into smaller quicker players at LB and on ST. This kid, should he show well in camp could be invaluable to the Steelers.

I do like the phrase Special Teams Demon. Hope we have something here.

So, think this means we just got some competition for Rocky Boiman.
