Default Conan vs NBC

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed yet.

Who's side are you on, what did you think of Conan's letter to his fans?
Quote:
People of Earth:
In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting
audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule. Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot.
That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

Yours,
Conan
so far it appears Conan is leaving NBC in the near future, do you think he will start a show on FOX or take a break from show biz for awhile?

He'll go to FOX because he doesn't want people to lose jobs because of his dispute over NBC. If he goes to FOX, over 200 or so people who work for him on that show will still have a job. If not, they all lose their jobs.

I don't think Conan is funny, but that's my opinion. It's all about the dollar baby.

I've been a Conan fan since he began the show. I'd hate to see him go, but completely understand if he does. I don't think anyone who is a true fan would blame him for doing it either. If anything, it's going to hurt NBC ratings (which they seem to have a way about them of taking a good thing and completely screwing it up).

A very classy letter by him too, and I know a lot of people appreciate that. He'll find a good spot somewhere, I'm sure of it...and even if he doesn't, he's very talented in a lot of different areas of show-biz, he'll figure something out. Best of luck to him.

Let's see - troops dying in Afghanistan and Iraq, Al-Qaeda getting closer and closer to pulling off another successful domestic attack in the U.S., a double-digit unemployment rate, a so-far-jobless and quite anemic economic "recovery," 100,000+ people killed by an earthquake in Haiti, etc., etc.

Conan and Leno? Non-story.

I was feeding my son a bottle the other night late and couldn't reach the remote and Conan came on and I watched his opening monolague talking about this issue...

That was the funniest he's ever been.

I dont really care, I don't watch any of those shows so to me, it means nothing. But from an outsiders opinion, Conan is right to want to leave.

NFL Network, ESPN (all of them) and Fox Sports, plus some re-runs of Criminal Minds or some National Geographics in HD is all I need to get me to end my evening.

Yet here you are wasting time on a football fan site on which you have made almost 16,000 posts. Inconsistent? Sports and entertainment are both needed diversions.

And this fight is good TV. Kimmel's imitation of Leno was brilliant.

http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/14/jay-le...-tonight-show/

If this is true, its over, Jay is taking back the tonight show.

NBC has threatened to keep Conan off the air for the remainder of his contact (3 1/2 years) but I think by signed Jay to take over the tonight show while COnan is still in charge violated the contact and Conan might be able to go strait to Fox.

This whole Conana vs NBC thing kind of happened before the earthquake :]
Everyone knows about the government and the unemployment, its old news and there is nothing anyone can do about it... Atleast people can discuss Conan V/s NBC without killing eachother over political views....
People are argueing over the earthquake in Haiti actually.
