Default Steelers best 10 draft picks in the last decade.

http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com...st-draft-picks

This is laugh out loud bad.

Without giving it much thought here's mine/

1. Ben Roethlisberger 1st 2004. Yeah it was a no brainer, but it was also franchise changing, the single most important addition to this team in the decade.

2. Troy Polamalu 1st 2003. I know some Steelers fans who still insist that the Steelers gave up too much in the trade up. The Steelers identified a franchise changing player and didn't risk losing him by waiting to draft in their designated spot. Brilliant move on Cowbert's part.

3. LaMarr Woodley 2nd 2007. To get one of the top 3 or 4 players in an entire draft class in the second round is working the system the right way!

4. Heath Miller 1st 2005. To get arguably the best overall tight end in the game at the bottom of the first round was tremendous value.

5. Casey Hampton 1st 2001. Replace tight end with nose tackle from above, and you've got Casey's pick.

6. Santonio Holmes 1st 2006. Another brilliant trade up, Do we win SB XLIII without him?

7. Ike Taylor 4th 2003. Throw out this year and he's been a very good cornerback. Great value in the fourth round.

8. Marvel Smith 2nd round 2000. Was a very good OT for most of the decade.

9. tie

Clark Haggans 5th round 2000

Brett Keisel 7th 2002

.

Yeah, I like your list way better than the one in the article LOL...

Hey, in Ike's defense, he DID have the only interception by a CB this year. Too bad he waited until the last defensive play of the year to get it LOL...

I think the guy was just trying too hard? I don't think any of the choices he cited were bad, but you can't do that list and leave guys like Ben, Troy, Casey and Heath off. And to cite Max Starks and Willie Colon over Marvel Smith, who spent the better part of the last decade as a near elite OT, well that's just crazy talk.

Yeah, the guy in the article seems to have a hard-on for our current offensive line. But really ... they were all drafted in the mid-to-low rounds, and we've gotten about what you'd expect out of them, which is average performance. Big whoop. Definitely not a "steal" by any means.

In no particular order, the ones I'd put on my list are

Aaron Smith - 4th round
Kiesel - 7th round
Haggans - 5th round
Porter - 3rd round
Roethlisberger - 1st round
Polamalu - 1st round
Miller - 1st round
Hampton - 1st round
Taylor - 3rd round
Woodley - 2nd round

I'd probably have to put Smith at the top of that list -- THAT was probably the biggest absolute steal out of anyone we have on the team.

I think the OP's point was to look for best value and "beating the odds" so to speak. Those guys exceeeded expectations.

So by those terms, great players picked in rounds 1, 2 are just living up to their value.

I agree with his picks with the exception of Starks and Kemo. Porter is a good call. I'd agree with the guy on BTSC who said that Gay was a good deal in the 5th. He's a nickel corner ability, pretty good for the 5th round.

I agree with the list, I'd only change Ike Taylor for Mike "60 Minutes" Wallace a 3rd. round steal

I get that point, but guys like Ben, Troy, and Big Snack, you're lucky if even a top-five pick turns out to be that good. That's two Hall of Famers and a third guy who's arguably the best in the league at his position. That beats the hell out of Kemo any day if you ask me.

Looking back through the years, I'm actually surprised at how many of our lower-round picks turned out to not do anything for us at all. I guess that just happens a lot.

Actually Townsend had an INT earlier in the same game.
