Default Officials named for XL

DETROIT (Ticker) - Bill Leavy has been bestowed with his first Super Bowl assignment as a referee.

The NFL announced Wednesday that Leavy, who is concluding his 11th season as a game official, will head the seven-man crew of game officials selected to work Super Bowl XL between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Leavy worked Super Bowl XXXIV as a back judge.

The rest of the Super Bowl XL officiating crew will consist of umpire Garth DeFelice, linesman Mark Hittner, line judge Mark Perlman, field judge Steve Zimmer, side judge Tom Hill and back judge Bob Waggoner.

It is the first Super Bowl assignment for DeFelice, Perlman, Zimmer, Hill and Waggoner. This marks the third Super Bowl assignment for Hittner.

Under the NFL's officiating program's evaluation system, the highest-rated officials at each position with the appropriate experience earn the right to work the Super Bowl. Officials must have five years of experience and previous playoff assignments.

Bob Boylston is the replay assistant. Tony Corrente, Undrey Wash and Tom Stabile will serve as alternate officials.

Leavy isn't bad but I really wanted Hocks!

Morelli wouldn't leave Ford Field alive....

He is by far my favorite official... He always explains why he is making the call he is and usually GETS IT RIGHT...

Just as long as the officials aren't blamed for GIVING THE GAME AWAY!!!

GOOOOOOOOO STILLERS!!!!!!!!

I am so excited....WISH THE GAME WERE ON TONIGHT!!!!

in a game of this magnitude and importance its a good idea to let the game be decided on the field by the players......hochuli would've been great but as long as doorknob Morelli isn't there thats cool.....

I thought this crew did an excellent job... except for the two early false starts they called against us. What were they thinking?
