Mike Tomlin Week 2 Post Game Conference

Mike Tomlin:Good Afternoon. In a bombshell we did not play to our best of ability in all three phases of the game. The rain may of contributed to the turnovers but we must have to be better prepared at ball security and the vision downfield when passing comments.

Question:You got off to a steaming start the first play of the game was a 34 yard pass to Mike Wallace soon afterwards Ben Roethlisberger was not Ben Roethlisberger?

Mike Tomlin:Ben's a great player some have bad days, he had a bad second and third quarter where he couldn't get the ball moving.

Question:How big was the play from Charles Tillman returning a touchdown when their offense did nothing all day?

Mike Tomlin:The two defenses really stepped it up today not allowing a touchdown on either side of the team. He's a great player and our offensive lineman were never going to catch him he just jumped the route and off he went. If he had not caught it Heath could of been off to the endzone.

Question:When Brian Urlacher went off due to injury for a few plays, was that a big loss to the Bears?

Mike Tomlin:Brians a great player, we took advantage of that and Willie ran a nice 26 yard outside run.

Question:Was their miss communicaton when Ben Roethlisberger threw the ball into the endzone and was intercepted?

Mike Tomlin:No there was no miscommunication he just underthrew the ball from Santonio and it ended up dritfting in the rain to their safety. An unfortunate play for us.

Mike Tomlin:Thanks for the questions.

Question:On 22 carries the Bears had 12 yars can you talk us through that?

Mike Tomlin:We just swarmed to the ball carrier Troy did a great effort rushing to the outisde to get him, James did a great job in the middle we kept them one dimensional today which as good, but we unfortunatley lost

Question:Rashard Mendenhall fumbled the ball three times today, 2 rushing 1 passes is that a cause for concern?

Mike Tomlin:We are not going to put the blame on anyones shoulders, today he ran nicely when he had to he had a 5.8 average during the first half and really did a nice job. Of course as i mentioned ball security is becoming an issue with 4 fumbles in two games.

Question:William Gay and Ike Taylor have now shutdown the recievers two games in a row. Are they a good duo in your eyes?

Mike Tomlin:They are good fundamental Cornerbacks so far, Ryan Clark has been helping out Willie and Troy just does his own thing, the best safety in the league, he has sueprnatural instincs and generally the secondary is quite a beast most games.

Question:Was this game hard to swallow, your now third in the division?

Mike Tomlin:It definitley is a tough loss when we outplayed them in every major statistical category, the problems we had today we will need to rectify when we face the Bengals next week.

Question:Will Willie Parker be given the start against the Cincinnati Bengals?

Mike Tomlin:We haven't made that decision yet but again it's something we are exploring, Mendenhall might be a bit busted up so again he may be available or not.

Mike Tomlin:Thanks for your Questions, hopefully we get a W next week.

In the Spotlight:Santonio Holmes

Each Week after the game Supa Fly Steeler gives an exclusive interview to one player.

For the first airing we start with Super Bowl XLIII Santonio Holmes.

Q:This season (2009) has not been the best of starts for you what has happened the recievers are getting shut down

A:Were defending Champs so everyone is gunning for us, we faced some good recievers in Cortland Finnegan and Charles Tillman

Q:Why will Rashard Mendenhall not be active for the game against the Cincinnati Bengals?

A:I think Coach wants the fumbling problem to stop other than that he has performened nicely but so has Willie, so Willie is have a chance to recapture his starting place.

That's it next week we interview Face Me Ike Taylor.

Mike Tomlin Week 3 Post Game Conference

Mike Tomlin:Good Afternoon. i thought we executed well on offense today with throwing the ball and running the ball. On the defense side of the ball we let up over 300 yards which was a dissapointment but we made some big plays on defense.

Question:Mike Wallace caught over 100 yards. How reliable is this youngster?

Mike Tomlin:First and foremost congratulations to Mike, he had an impressive game it's not every day you find a Rookie as reliable as him, he did good congratulations to him.

Question:Willie Parker responded to harsh critisim and really piled up the running yards, will he start next week?

Mike Tomlin:Willie had one of those days where he was just in sync all game. His efforts won't go unappreciated and it may contribute to more sharing of the load. Rashard will most likely be healthy next week.

Question:What is the status of Ike Taylor he was sidelined two quarters with a strained forearm?

Mike Tomlin:He's fine right now he came back in and made a huge play in the endzone.

Question:The Bengals have complained that instead of taking the Quarterback Kneel to end the game you decided to pile up the yards and go for another touchdown your thoughts on the situation Mike?

Mike Tomlin:Steeler football is sixty minutes. Not fifty five we put a hard work effort in, they should of made more effective plays to not give us the ball back. What we did i think is all fair. Unfortunate for them to be the team that they accuse us of padding our stats.

Question:Chad Johnson (Ocho Cinco) has complained that Ryan Clark illegally tackled him and gave him a game ending injury (strained back) and also took our Carson Palmer with a strained back. Your thoughts on this volatile issue?

Mike Tomlin:Man what i saw was a completley hard hitting legal hit, if you don't want to play the game like a man may i suggest you trade in your helmet for shinpads and go play the other code of football. Again it was unfortunate that Carson got injured we weren't flagged for the plays the sack was a lethal throw to the ground, your Quarterback is going to get hit one day, hard as well we don't complain.

Question:In preparation for next Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers what are you going to focus on?

Mike TomlinWere going to do what we been doing all season long so far, correcting our mistakes from the past game and trying to win football games.

Question:Your Team has given up 10 sacks so far, only once against Cincinnati your on par to give up 52.8 sacks your thoughts Mike?

Mike Tomlin:Obviously were going to have to try and block alot better, as the season progresses i am sure that is able to do. We did a good job against the Bengals.

Question:Ben Roethlisberger is on pace to throw for 3696 yards is this Quarterback vastly underrated?

Mike Tomlin:Ben is an elite guy he doesn't care about crowns, we care about wins and Bowl games to be honest.

Question:Mike Wallace is on pace to have 1140 recieving yards and 16 touchdowns, how good a reciever is he?

Mike Tomlin:A reliable one.

Mike Tomlin:Thanks for your questions, hopefully next week we can extend our record to 2-0 on NBC Games this year.

Last Time These Teams Met:In the 2009 AFC Divisional Playoff Rounds, the would be Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the San Diego Chargers 24-35 on their way to a sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Series Lead:The Pittsburgh Steelers lead the overall series against the San Diego Chargers 20-6 Including Playoffs.

Prediction:Pittsburgh Steelers 25-17 San Diego Chargers.

Injury Report:
SD Shaun Philips (Broken Tailbone, 8 Weeks)

When the San Diego Chargers fly to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers for the third consecutive time in 4 Football Months they will have revenge straight on their minds as they try to end the Pittsburgh Steelers streak of winning five straight NBC Sunday Night winning games, the last game they lost on Sunday Night was an AFC West Opponent, the Chargers will be looking to break that streak in the same fashion of being a West opponent again.

"That lost really hurt us, we were rolling with alot of momentum into Pittsburgh after blowing out Denver and beating Indianapolis, we nearly beat them during the regular season as well" explained Philip Rivers, it was a tough pill for him to swallow as he still has not taken his team to the promised land, the only last 2004 first round Quarterback to do so (Only includes top 10).

The Steelers will be looking to avoid a loss a win here will give them a 3-1 record and games against Detroit and Cleveland will give them a 5-1 record a game before the bye, providing lots of momentum heading into the second half of the season with games against the Browns, Chiefs, Raiders and Dolphins. A win tonight against an AFC Powerhouse Oppponent will send them top of the AFC provinding an Indianapolis and Denver loss.

The Steelers will look to rule this game with an iron grip. Don't be surprised to see Rashard Mendenhall burst out during the second quarter just as Willie Parker did a week back.
