Preview:
There is only one thing certain in this year's AFC Championship Game. It will be one of the most hyped and best games of the past 20 years. It Features the #2 Defense (Steelers) going against the #4 ranked defesne (Titans)

Who knows how this game will play out.

In the AFC Championship which features two great defenses there both different in contracts. Pittsburgh with the #2 ranked defense prides itself on stopping the run and the Titans #4 ranked defense devours opponents on the passing game with their intimidating ballhawking secondary.

The Tennessee Titans will get Chris Johnson back who sat out in the Wildcard and Divisional Rounds with a hamstring injury. He wasn't as productive as his last years 2000 milestone but rushed the ball 277 times for 1432 yards for an average of 5.1 yards per carry and had 14 touchdowns and no fumbles.

The Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall in his first full year as true starter rushed the ball 299 times for 1233 yards for an average of 4.1 yards per carry and had five touchdowns and seven fumbles. He is complimented well with Rookie Dexter McCluster who rushed the ball 45 times for 338 yards for an average of 7.5 yards per carry, no touchdowns and six fumbles but the majority came on muffed and fumbled returns.

The Steelers special teams were one of the best in recent league history. Kentucky Special Teams Ace Linebacker Johnny Williams led the league in 21 special teams tackles and also had two sacks. Derrick Doggett had five tackles but also a key fumble recovery back in week 2 against Baltimore.

The Steelers secondary is led by All-Pro Safety Troy Polamalu who totaled 72 tackles and 3 interceptions. Rookie Sensastion Earl Thomas stole the show as AFC's Best Defensive Back of the year had 66 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, and 7 interceptions and two defensive touchdowns, on his debut with the Steelers at the Season Opener he intercepted Drew Brees in the endzone and carried it back 101 yards for the touchdown. 3 yards short of tying and 5 yards short of breaking the record.

The Titans secondary is headlined by Free Safety Michael Griffin who recorded 72 tackles, 1 sack, 4 interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. On the other side Ex Steeler Chris Hope had 68 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 interceptions that went for 2 defensive touchdowns. Don't forget Cortland Finnegan who totaled 23 tackles and shut down some of the best recievers in the game with 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions.

Don't expect the Steelers to pass the ball around much. Expect each team to try and establish the run.

Steelers 35-31

Key Stat
The Titans struggled all day on offense gaining only 138 total yards, 53 by rushing and 86 through the air, they converted only 1 of 10 third downs conversions and Pittsburgh had nearly twice as much time on posession.

Noteworthy
LaMarr Woodley was uncontrollable at times recording six tackles and 2 sacks.

Story
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin waded through the fireworks, confetti and the mob in the middle of the field to congratulate his Quarterback.

The Steelers are going back to the Super Bowl for the Third time in six years.

The Titans known for having a high powered offense averaging 28.4 points per game during the season were held to just 13 points in the AFC Championship game.

"This was a hard fought defensive game" said Mike Tomlin the 4th year Coach headed two his second Super Bowl in just three years.

"I'm a little dissapointed" said the Titans Coach Jeff Fisher as he watched his players trudge off the field with black and gold confetti all over them.

Believe it or not but the Titans came into this game as one point favourites -- They didn't act if they were favourites.

They struggled immensely and could not contain Blitzburgh as they got to Vince Young five times, without James Harrison.

"Man today we not play our best we a little mad especially Coach Fisher" winced Chris Johnson as he limped back to the Lockeroom after being hit hard all day.

The Titans made the playoffs with winning out their last four games with beating opponents 151 points to 73 points a game (37.0-18).

"We just believed in ourselves" said Ben Roethlisberger at the podium.

"We never thought one second we could not win another Super Berth with the performence of last year" said Santonio Holmes

"We knew we could do this, we just had to put our mind to it" said Ike Taylor with the help of Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark and Earl Thomas shut down the passing game of the Titans.

The celebrations did not end there. A record setting attendence of 66,150 cramped into the Stadium of Heinz Field to watch their team book their place in it's eighth Super Bowl performence.

"It's fantastic" one Fan said as he kept yelling "Sevenburgh baby, let's go Steelers" throughout the entire game. The whole City was behind them and maybe the whole state.

"This Super Bowl will be special for Coach" said Defensive Captain James Farrior indicating that Legendary Hall of Fame Coach Dick Lebeau will retire after the Super Bowl .

"We want to send him out as a winner" said All Pro Safety Troy Polamalu.

After facing two AFC South Opponents in consecutive Weeks the Steelers will wait to see who is their final hurdle in the 2010 season as the Minnesota Vikings host the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

Notes:The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 6-5 at home during the AFC Championship game. ... The Tennessee Titans have never hosted the AFC Championship game and are now 1-4 all time in the AFC Championship as the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans

Anonymous Blogger
NFL.COM

49ERS (12-4) vs. VIKINGS (12-4)

What to watch -- The Vikings are back to the NFC Championship game for a second straight consecutive year, the 49ers the Cinderella team of the NFL this year went from 7-9 to 12-4 to one win away from their sixth Super Bowl Birth.

The Vikings entered the season without Brett Favre and repeated the same success with a strong rushing game (Adrian Peterson ran for 1823 yards and 13 touchdowns) and Newly Aquired Free Agent David Garrard threw 30 touchdowns as the Vikings stormed out to 7-1 lead and beat out the Saints 24-17 in the 2009 NFC Championship Rematch.

The 49ers crushed their way to a 8-1 opening and lost three of their last six games but still managed a 12-4 record. Patrick Willis Defensive Player of the Year was behind a strong run defense which only allowed 61.25 yards per game and 18.9 points per game and was the NFC's best defence behind Linebacker Legend Mike Singletary.

Patrcik Willis recorded 130 tackles, 20 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and 3 interceptions and is now regarded as the NFL's best Linebacker. Veteran Manny Lawson had 15 sacks. Between them 35 sacks.

Alex Smith came to life and threw 26 touchdowns this year and threw for over 3000 yards.

The 49ers team are ready for a dynasty.

NFL.com predicts -- The 49ers scare the Vikings early on and keep it interested but the Vikings earn there first Super Bowl Birth since 1977. Vikings 27-13

NMINNEAPOLIS, MNó

It was over when...
With 5:46 left in the Final Quarter of the National Football Championship game. Up 17-6 David Garrard threw a 6 yard touchdown pass to Percy Harvin to wrap up the game and send the Vikings to the Super Bowl.

Game Ball
Rookie Vikings Receiver Mardy Gilyard had 2 receptions for 116 yards and a 89 yard touchdown run.

Key Stat
The 49ers dominated most offensive stats except from redzone offense and turnovers. Those two along doomed the 49ers to their chance at a Super Bowl Birth.

Noteworthy
Frank Gore rushed the ball 36 times for 115 yards. It was the first time in over 15 years the Vikings gave up a 100 yard rusher in the playoffs.

Story
MINNEAPOLIS -- Brad Childress, beaming and sporting an NFC champions cap, waded through the mob on the muddt field until he found his wide reciever, Percy Harvin.

And there they stood in the raining confetti, the winning NFC coach and the game changer, finally savoring a moment that was a long time coming since last season.

The 49ers Super Run is over.

"We didn't make the required plays today to win the football game" Said Coach Singletary.

On Defense the 49ers only allowed 235 total yards. They sacked David Garrard six times.

But when they needed their offense to step up they were not there.

"It was annoying" commented Cornerback Marcus Trufant "It was as if they were not trying with full heart"

The 49ers had just passed for 122 yards. A dissapointing way to end the season?

"Definitley" told to reporters the Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Willis who recorded eight tackles and three sacks.

"We will be back"

Not this time as the Vikings manhandelled the 49ers during the second half.

"We put so much effort into it this year, we had to win, after what happened last year" said Running Back Adrian Peterson.

The Vikings (14-4) will meet the (14-4) Steelers in Louisana for a rematch of Super Bowl IX in which the Steelers beat the Vikings 16-6.

Notes:The 49ers record as an Away NFC Championship opponent is 1-5 and 5-8 total.
