Mike Tomlin Week 5 Post Game Conference

Mike Tomlin:Good Afternoon. I was not pleased with the way we conditioned ourselfes today, we kept getting burned on many big passing plays and it was a huge reason why we should of lost this matchup, i still can't believe we overcame a 24 point defecit but we did and im proud of how the offense did today. Rashard was shut down on the run game but still found away to get open in the passing game. I can't stress how much Ben Roethlisberger saved a few of the bodys jobs today. Questions Please.

Question:How much was a loss was Troy Polamalu and Ike Taylor today?

Mike Tomlin:Oh yeah it was a big loss, anytime you lose those two candidates your going struggle and struggle we did against the Lions. We have to get use to not having Ike Taylor around, he's out for up to another 7 weeks and Troy may be back in time to face the Denver Broncos, that we are unasure of it becomes a daily procedure to see if his tests come back positive.

Question:Mike, you never put the blame on anyones shoulders but it was obvious that Carey Davis did not block well today and Deshea Townsend and Tyrone Carter were not good in coverage giving up nearly 300 of the yards by themselves?

Mike Tomlin:We lose as a team, again changes will come. I tried alternating Keenan Lewis and Joe Burnett where Deshea was before the half, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. We are going to have to go back to the film room and see where the mistakes are and how they can be nullified by next week.

Question:How vital is it that you are better prepared for Minnesota and especially Brett Favre who has thrown for 1254 yards, 10 touchdowns and 1 interception?

Mike Tomlin:Were going to have to play our best against Brett he is a accomplished Quarterback within this league and is playing lights out this year.

Question:You now have the 7th ranked defense and have now given up 300+ straight games after allowing so few during the first two games is there a cause for concern?

Mike Tomlin:I don't think so, we just have to have better preperation when the Minnesota Vikings come to town. Thank you all

Steelers release Fullback Davis

The Steelers released Carey Davis today as part of the change ups that was needed in order to maintain a winning mentality that was completley lost during the Detroit Lions game.

Davis was axed by Mike Tomlin for not even having a single carry throughout the 2009 campaign. He also blocked so poor against the Lions, Mendenhall and Paker combined for only 14 carries.

Most likely David Johnson will take the reps for Fullback this week.

Steelers sign defensive back Travis Fisher

In an effort to stop the high yardage throughout the Air the Steelers signed Defensive Back Travis Fisher.

The principle deal is worth $1.27M for one year.

Others who may be on Speed Dial are Justin Miller, Corey Ivy, Keiwan Ratliff and a few other veterans.

Jamal Lewis out of 9 years of facing the Steelers has only 1 100 yard game and goes against a defence only allowing 47 yards per game on run defense

Last Time These Teams Met:In the last week of the 2008 Regular Season The Steelers shut out the Browns 31-0.

Series Lead:The Steelers edge the Browns 57-55 in the series lead.

Prediction:Pittsburgh Steelers 17 - 9 Cleveland Browns

Injury Report:
PIT Ike Taylor (Abdominal Tear, 6 Weeks)
PIT Troy Polamalu (MCL Sprain, 2 Weeks)
CLE Kenyon Coleman (Hip Pointer, 3 Weeks)
CLE Alex Mack (Pulled Hamstring, 1 Week)
CLE John St. Clair (Torn Shoulder, Out for Season)

When the 4-1 Pittsburgh Steelers host divisional opponent the 1-4 they will be out to prove that the near disastrous upset to the Lions was a fluke and that they will squash the Browns side with an iron grip.

The Browns will target new Starter Travis Fisher early and often with Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu out, Brady Quinn will target the rigth handside of the field and try to pound the ground with Jamal Lewis.

The Browns may try to get points through the Returns team with Joshua Cribbs averaging a Leagues best 27.5 on Kick Returns.

Mike Tomlin Week 6 Post Game Conference

Mike Tomlin:Good Afternoon. Today we did not anticipate on being below par and as a result at the end of the day looking at a score sheet of losing to the Browns. We did no way associate ourselves with normal game day mentality. We gave up too many yards and did not execute. This season we have been plagued with Inconsistency, something that needs to be fixed next week. Fast. We cannot describe ourselves as a Championship Calibre team and go out and lose to inferior opponents as we did today and nearly last week. I am like the rest of Steeler nation displeased by the Scoreline. Questions would be good right now.

Question:Mike, you just dipped into Free Agency and brang in Travis Fisher, who did a good job today but got injured, what is his injury status, any updates?

Mike Tomlin:He played a good football game, he's been diagnosed with Sprained Elbow that could sideline him for up to 3 weeks, again it becomes a weekly update with tests to see when he is ready.

Question:You have 7 Cornerbacks on your roster. Are you going to have to go out again and bring in another Defensive Back?

Mike Tomlin:It might be a possibility, right now we are going to look at Deshea, Joe, Keenan and Anthony at possibly starting, Ryan Mundy can be involved as well he has played quite well the past few weeks.

Question:Would you really start Deshea against fast guys like Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and the Cannon Arm Brett Favre posses?

Mike Tomlin:Again it's a confidential thing so i cannot say, We don't have much choice at the moment right now, all our injuries are in the secondary.

Question:The game was rainy will you use that as a contributing factor of why the Steelers lost?

Mike Tomlin:We will not use that excuse, the boys did not come to play today. We are letting bad teams hang around with us instead of finishing them off.

Question:Your only getting 4 third down conversions a game, is their a need of overhaul in the playbook when it comes down to third downs.

Mike Tomlin:We need to work on that, we might be a 4-2 team but we need to get better at things, especially over the bye week.

Question:Is there a possibility Ryan Mundy will start over Tyrone Carter?

Mike Tomlin:No.

Question:Over the past few weeks Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker have been alternating. Who will recieve the bulk of the carries against Minnesota?

Mike Tomlin:It's a confidential thing but Rashard Mendenhall is currently the starter.

Question:Describe the loss against the Cleveland Browns

Mike Tomlin:It's obviously frustrating. Were losing guys to injury as well, that does not help.

Mike Tomlin:Thanks for the Questions.

With Adrian Peterson out with Injury who will Chester Taylor do against the #1 run defence

Last Time These Teams Met:In Week 15 of the 2005 NFL Season, the Steelers beat the Vikings 18-3

Series Lead:The Vikings lead the Overall series 6-8

Prediction:Pittsburgh Steelers 24 - 23 Minnesota Vikings

Injury Report:
PIT Ike Taylor (Abdominal Tear, 5 Weeks)
PIT Troy Polamalu (MCL Sprain, 1 Weeks)
PIT Travis Fisher (Sprained Elbow, 2 Weeks)
MIN Ben Leber (Broken Collarbone, Probable)
MIN Adrian Peterson (Broken Collarbone, 7 Weeks)

When the 4-2 Pittsburgh Steelers host the Undefeated 6-0 Minnesota Vikings they will be facing a Brett Favre that has thrown only one turnover this season.
