Mike Tomlin Week 12 Post Game Conference

Mike Tomlin:Good evening. Raven Steeler games always come down to the wire like this, this was no difference. I thought we played good enough to win the ball game but We did not complete all three phases, Special Teams were not good enough today. I would like to address our Quarterback Situation, i thought Dennis Dixon played exceptional tonight when he took the 13 snaps.

Question:Why if Dennis Dixon played "Exceptional" did he only pass 5 times in the second half?

Mike Tomlin:Mistakes. Of course that did not happen and he did very well in a hostle enviroment under huge amounts of pressure. He again had a good night.

Question:With Dixon's performence will he become the backup Quarterback?

Mike Tomlin:It's a viable option we will look at our options in the last five games. Hopefully we can get Ben back into the lineup and get stats he put up in the first few weeks.

Question:Hines Ward has had a quiet year any explanations he hasn't even had a touchdown yet?

Mike Tomlin:He's been doubled teamed alot. That's left Mike and Tone open for alot of yards and touchdowns. Between them they have had 14 touchdowns. The others have come from Heath.

Question:Does this loss hurt, your on a three game losing streak and are now ranked #3 in the AFC North standings?

Mike Tomlin:Any loss hurts this one was of extreme significance. We will have a chance to claim the division still but we need to win out something that we are going to try and do.

Question:Ike Taylor will be back in the next few weeks how big will that be to you guys?

Mike Tomlin:It will be big, i think we missed him. In 2007 we only gave up 176.5 yards per game, in 2008 it was 156.9 and now it's some 240.3 so we have drastic improvements to make.

Mike Tomlin:Thanks, next week we plan to defeat the Oakland Raiders on all three phases of the game.

In Brief

Last meeting: Troy Polamalu's 77-yard fumble return for a touchdown propelled the Steelers past the Packers, 20-10, in Week 9 of the 2005 season.
Streaks: The Steelers have won six of the last eight meetings, but trail the overall series, 18-13.
Last week: Pittsburgh's playoff hopes took a serious hit after a 17-6 loss in Cleveland. ... Green Bay secured a hard-fought 24-12 win over rival Chicago.

Keep your eye on ...

The Steelers' desire: Divisional losses and some patchy streaks of inconsistency have just about buried Pittsburgh's postseason dreams, but that does not mean it cannot finish the season strong and ruin some other teams' seasons. The Steelers' first chance to showcase whether they still have the fight to do some damage comes this Sunday against Green Bay.

Sacks galore: This game features two of the league's three most-sacked quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers has been taken down an NFL-high 49 times, while Ben Roethlisberger has hit the turf 24 times but nearly 50 times the past two seasons. Couple that with the fact each squad is in the top half of the league at sacking opposing quarterbacks, and there figures to be lots of negative yardage in this contest.

A.J. Hawks's impact: Green Bay's veteran cornerback is making a push for Defensive Player of the Year honors with an team high fourteen sacks, 76 tackles, four interceptions and four forced fumbles and recoveries. He could strengthen his bid with another outstanding performance against Pittsburgh.

Did you know?

If Ben Roethlisberger passing yards per game rolled out at the same rate he would just miss on being the first Steeler to pass for 4000 Yards. ... If the playoffs started today, the Packers would be in on several sophisticated tiebreakers, but the Steelers would be out.
