I checked the Steelers page to see how many starters were drafted in each round. I must say I was surprised!
Round - # of starters 1-8 2-1 3-3 4-4 5-1 6-2 7-1 UDFA-5 Two things that really stuck out to me: 1.The starting O-line's highest drafted players Essex and Starks 3rd round picks. The others are as follows Colon(4th), Hartwig(6th), Kemo(6th). Kind of crazy you would put this in front of your franchise QB. 2. Besides Troy who was a first rounder the rest of the secondary isn't exactly full of high draft choices either Ike(4th), Gay(5th),Clark(udfa). This list also includes the PK(udfa),P(4th), KR(udfa),FB(udfa). I think we need to start drafting better in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Just a little info let me know what you think.

Yeah, the site must be wrong because he was drafted in the 2004( started on the Super Bowl XL team). According to wikipedia he was pick number 12 in the 3rd round of the 2004 draft.

Yeah no problem. You were looking at what 24 different players. Probably just didn't cross your mind. Plus you would expect the OFFICIAL site to be able to get it right.
Your point is still valid. Other than the o-line, We don't draft very well in the mid and later rounds on a consistant basis.

Contrast that with a few years ago...
ARE 2nd Heath 1st Marvel 2nd Faneca 1st Hartings 1st Simmons 1st Starks 3rd Hines 3rd Ben 1st Bus 1st Kreider UDFA _______________________ Joey 3rd Kimo 6th Casey 1st Aaron 4th Haggans 5th Farrior 1st Foote 4th Ike 4th Deshea 4th Troy 1st Hope 3rd 9 of 22 starters were 1st rounders. 15 of 22 were taken in the 1st 3 rounds. 19 of 22 were from the 1st 4 rounds. The 2005 Steelers The 2002 Steelers were even more loaded - 12 of 22 starters were 1st rounders.

I hate to say that the problem is in talent evaluating though because we have brought in UDFA who have contributed well. Parker, Foster, Krieder, Legursky, Logan are just a few of the more recent ones off the top of my head.
