That of course is the worry.....so far so good. I made sure our mechanic signed off on it before I got it for him.

I have a friend who paints cars and semi tractors on the side....he is going to give it a new paint job at a VERY reasonable price.

The way I look at it...I paid $900...the book on it is $2,200...if I even get a whif of the vehicle being a money vacuum....I sell it for a profit.

My father always said, "A boy gets the old beat up used car, but the girl gets the new car"

"why that's not fair dad!"

"Because, if you break down, you can walk home, I don't want your sister breaking down or having to worry about that."

So I got the 1984 Chevette. I miss that car sometimes. Never got one speeding ticket, well...because it couldn't speed.

My son is 4 and has a '65 Mustang Convertible waiting for him (from his grandfather) when he gets of age, assuming he is mature enough.

If we have a second son, hopefully I'll have a '11 Dodge Challenger to give him.

My son initially said "Sooooo I have to drive what you pick out"?

I told him "NOPE...you GET to drive what I pick out".

My son is 6months old, I'm hoping my 2001 Chevy Malibu makes it another 15 years.

Both of my daughters are getting brand new V Ws in 4 and 6 years respectively

My wife (Steel Duck) and I are going through this debate right now. Do we let her 15 yr old son drive her '97 Camaro V6 convertable? It' runs and looks great even with 119,000 miles. Or the '97 Blazer? 123,000 miles and starting to show. Then there's my '99 Z-28 that I bought new . . .with only 40,000 miles we wont even go there!
We where thinking of a small truck Dodge Dakota or S-10. Something that would handle the abuse.
Maybe I should start looking at 93 Tempos.

Great news for your son LLT.

Enjoy the great deal you got for awhile. Because when the insurance is due, it may not be long before that $900 seems like a drop in the bucket.

$70 dollars a month to cover him on our policy...plus initial $900...plus license and title fees... plus gas...plus paint job...plus future repairs...
