I like where Kirwan is going...and think that bolstering our secondary is a primary need.

Unless Thomas is one of those who failed the drug test I think we might still draft him at #18 due to his versatility....my darkhourse is still McCourty who I think might end up being the best CB in this class, though I am beginning to think that the 49ers might take him earlier than any one is currently thinking. The more I look at the 49ers needs, the more I think McCourty seems like the perfect fit...he would be a day one starter at CB and fill their need for a return specialist.

If the Steelers dont have a chance at a Top OT or OG ( Iupati ) and Kyle Wilson is there I hope the Steelers nab him at 18 for sure. The guy has Star written all over him in my opinion.

There are only six active quarterbacks with a Super Bowl ring. Right after that group of elite quarterbacks sits Donovan McNabb, who is now a Washington Redskin … for less than a first-round pick!

Here are the ripple effects the McNabb trade might have on the draft:

» The Eagles could easily select USC safety Taylor Mays in the first round and then -- with two second-round picks -- they can get Penn State linebacker Navorro Bowman and a longshot defensive end, Austen Lane from Murray State.

» Jimmy Clausen falls in the draft. There may be a landing spot at No. 9 (Buffalo), but if he does not get selected there he could start to slide like Aaron Rodgers did in 2005.

» The Redskins may move out of the No. 4 spot to acquire a second-round pick to make up for the one they lost in the McNabb trade.

» If the Redskins stay put, they most likely would love one of the offensive tackles; Anthony Davis has to be considered

» The Eagles have five of the top 87 draft selections totaling 1,815 trade points -- which means they could move all over this draft or stay put and fill the roster with all kinds of talent.

» The biggest effect of the trade may be on Oakland at No. 8, Buffalo at No. 9, and Denver No. 11. Those teams need to reevaluate personnel and ready their draft boards.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers
Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
The Steelers need a starting corner and Wilson's return skills come in handy. With the Bengals and Ravens beefing up their passing attacks Pittsburgh has to improve in coverage. (Previous pick: Wilson; second round: John Asamoah, G/C, Illinois)

Love Kirwan....He and Rick Gosselin are the two writers who I religiously follow in regards to the inside draft scoop.

I am trying to find the article....but I read that a few teams were concerned about his size....and that at least one GM "wondered" if he hadn't drank a gallon of water before he weighed in. They went on to say that he plays more like a CB and they doubted he could play safety in the NFL at his size.

(I found that humerous since he is virtually the same size as Troy and bigger than the Colts safety, Bob Sanders, who plays the position very well in my opinion)

I'll honestly be disappointed if the Steelers take Asomoah in round 2 when Bruce Campbell, Jared Veldheer, Nate Allen, Corey Wooten, Navarro Bowman, Donald Washington, Brandon Spikes and ESPECIALLY Matt Tennant are still on the board like in Pat's mock.

Asomoah is not a mauler like the Steelers covet and IMO not any better than Shaun Lauvao or John Jerry. Matt Tennant is still a bit light at 6'5" 300lbs, but can add bulk to his frame and has great feet. Sorry, but I dont like reaching for a 3rd round OG when so much other talent is on the board..........and the Steelers already got a 3rd round guard last year.

Kirwas brings up an interesting point in his 5th mock draft.

Jacksonville doesn't have that many draft picks. They are in a prime position to move DOWN to pickup extra picks. The Steelers have 10 draft picks, and most of those rookies probably won't make our team which puts us in a prime position to move UP. At the 10th slot, we would have a full range of players to choose from (Haden, Thomas, Wilson, even Berry if he slides).
