Default Pittsburgh Steelers draft digest: Cornerback Kyle Wison being eyed by Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers draft digest: Cornerback Kyle Wison being eyed by Steelers

PITTSBURGH - The parade of potential draft picks continues at the UPMC Training facility, as Tennessee guard Jacques McClendon and Indiana tackle Rodger Saffold were in town on Tuesday to interview with the team, bringing the number of prospects to six.

Examiner.com has learned from a league source that two other big name prospects are expected to be brought in for a closer look this week, including one whom the Steelers could be eyeing with its first round pick, Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson.

Just how serious the Steelers are about Wilson? Defensive backs coach Roy Horton was at his pro day workout on Friday according to a source from the school.

Wilson who reminds many of former Pitt standout and current New York Jet Darrelle Revis and some of Rod Woodson, first caught the attention of scouts during the NFL combine when he did 25 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press.

He only helped his stock rise during the Pro day workout when the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Wilson clocked a 4.42 40-yard dash and posted a 38-inch vertical jump.

"I was happy how everything went," Wilson told reporters after his workout. "I know I'm as fast as they come, so hey, I'll trust my speed versus anybody."

Billed as a confident energetic team leader
, during his collegiate career he recorded 159 tackles, had 11 interceptions and a forced fumble. Last season, he returned two of those interceptions back for touchdowns. In addition he also averaged 12.6 yards on 63 career punt returns with three touchdowns.

Some scouts say he might be limited to a nickle role in the NFL because of his size, but the one thing about Wilson, is he also excelled on special teams while at Boise State, an area the Steelers sorely need help at in 2010.

Asked about his thoughts as to where he might go during the draft, Wilson had this to say after his workout.

"Draft day. Can't really do anything about it," Wilson said. " You just gotta' sit back and relax. It's 22 years of work I continue to put in for that one day. When that phone rings, I'll be glad to take that opportunity,"
