Default Memorable Moments at Civic/Mellon Arena

So many good memories for me in this building, mostly from when I was a kid and going to games with my Dad. Out of all the incredible plays and all the goals scored, I think my favorite memory will always be how intense the fans were then and how, even during regular season games, there were times when you'd think the building was going to fall apart from all the shaking. Playoff games were just pure insanity.

I got through watching the final home game without any waterworks, but these vids just bring back so many memories. Miss all those good times with my Dad and other friends and family and can't wait to make new ones with my daughter in the new building.

Thanks for posting those vids SCM. I got all choked up watching them
I haven't lived in The Burgh for a while now (and it KILLS me...), but I used to get home every December and make it a point to go to as many games as possible--
Now I live in a place where people don't know the difference between a Blue Line and a Chorus Line! It KILLLLLLLS me...

Mario, Jagr, Coffey, Trottier, Stevens, Tommy B, etc etc---I loved watching those guys
Love how the first vid shows the changing of the "Old Guard" to the "New Guard". I haven't had the pleasure of watching Sid the Kid live yet...but I WILL
I loved hearing Mike Lang do his thing, too...he was truly one of a kind---

It's a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh

Nobody knows. The Pens want to demolish it and turn the land into a mix of businesses and housing, but there's a strong push to save it and turn it into an urban mall or park with an amphitheater. We'll know this fall what it's final fate will be. I'm really going to miss it no matter what happens to it. Lots of memories for me in that building, from my first ever event there, a Pittsburgh Spirit MISL game, to all of the WWF/WWE wrestling events, being turned away when I tried to buy Pens' playoff tickets in 1993, to my first ever Pens game in 1996 that ended with a GWG in OT by Mario, Mario's comeback the year after I became a STH, Alex Kovalev scoring 4 goals in a game, suffering through the lean years from 2002-06, seeing both Sid's and Geno's first NHL goals...and the list goes on and on. Hopefully there will be more memories during the playoffs and really send the building out in style!

More likely than not, it's going to be torn down to make room for either a parking lot and/or a street connecting downtown.

I did read this recently though....

Developer Wants To Use Mellon Arena Roof For New Office Building

PITTSBURGH -- It may be the last season for Mellon Arena, but its distinctive roof may live on even if the rest of the arena is demolished.
A developer wants to save part of the dome and use it for the construction of a new office building.
The building is planned for the Stone Quarry Crossing at Interstate 279 and Camp Horne Road.
The project is still in the early stages of planning and there is still a push to save Mellon Arena from the wrecking ball.

How got all chocked up on those videos great! Ill never forget my first game I was 6 years old now 13 years ago against the NJ Devils, the Pens lost 3 go 2, but I thank my grandfather for teaching me the Pittsburgh way and he taught me to love ALL of our sports team and please grandpa R.I.P. please and thank you.

Ill never forget all the games I saw over the past 13 years good and bad ill remember every moment and what made it so special to me. The fans, the building shaking in the playoffs, the new whiteout's and the building for giving us all of this for all this time.

Ill never forget the Mellon Arena and the memories it brought to my life!

Speaking of the whiteouts, I don't expect to see any this year since the Coyotes are in the playoffs and their fans carried on the whiteout tradition from the Winnipeg Jets' fans (which is fitting since they may end up back in Winnipeg). It was cool to see the last 2 seasons, though.

I got to see Mario score on a breakaway against the Crapitals. I think it was 1996.
