Default NFLDraftSpot.com Final 7 Round Mock Draft

ROUND ONE

1. St. Louis Rams - Sam Bradford, QB, 6-4, 236, Oklahoma*

The Rams have passed on the chance to draft a franchise quarterback several times over the past few years. At this point they may be forced to pull the trigger. I have a feeling the Rams aren't completely sold on Bradford, and may have some regrets in waiting to address the quarterback position in years past. If Bradford is in fact a future star, the Rams could finally be turning the corner after a string of losing seasons. Early on the consensus was the Rams would draft either Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy, once again using a high pick to address the defensive line. Don't completely rule out the possibility the Rams do go with Suh or McCoy.

Plan B: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

2. Detroit Lions - Russell Okung, OT, 6-5, 300, Oklahoma State

A lot of people just can't understand the Lions taking Russell Okung here. I think you just have to look at the precedence set last year during the off season for the Lions. The Lions showed a commitment to build the offense through the draft, while addressing the defense through free agency. So far this off season, the Lions have been signing free agents on the defensive side of the ball. The addition of Okung makes a lot of sense. He's a young, potential franchise left tackle to protect the blind side of last year's top overall pick Matt Stafford. The selection of Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew last year 20th overall says the Lions have seen a lot of film on Okung. Anyone whose seen an ample amount of film on Okung has to like what they see.

Plan B: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy, DT, 6-4, 295, Oklahoma*

The Buccaneers have to be happy to have McCoy fall in their lap. McCoy is likely #1 on their board, and is a perfect fit to their defense. I expect the Bucs to use this draft to rebuild their defense and return to the days of playing great defense in Tampa Bay. McCoy is certainly a step in the right direction because of his ability to put pressure on the quarterback up the middle similar to former Buc Warren Sapp. It is possible the Bucs could prefer Ndamukong Suh over McCoy, but McCoy appears to be the better fit from a scheme standpoint.

Plan B: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

4. Washington Redskins - Ndamukong Suh, DT, 6-4, 307, Nebraska

Not long ago people would have thought there was no way Suh would fall to 4th overall. The Redskins won't complain though. Suh is likely 2nd or 3rd on the Redskins board, with Sam Bradford probably being #1 and possibly Russell Okung #2. Suh gives the Reskins a real head start in building their 3-4 defense. As a 3-4 defensive end, Suh could see his greatest results. It is possible the Redskins could go another direction with this pick by either taking quarterback Jimmy Clausen, or their prefered available offensive tackle.

Plan B: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

5. Kansas City Chiefs - Bryan Bulaga, OT, 6-6, 305, Iowa*

A surprise pick to many, but so was Tyson Jackson a year ago. The Chiefs still need to do a lot of work to solidify their offensive line, and Bulaga could sure up the spot at left tackle, to allow former first round pick Branden Albert to move over one spot to his natural left guard position. Bulaga is a technician who should be able to step into the lineup right away. Bulaga in some ways is comparable to former #1 overall pick Jake Long of the Miami Dolphins. The Cheifs could choose to go a different direction and address the defense, or could pull a surprise pick and grab Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen.

Plan B: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee

6. Seattle Seahawks - Anthony Davis, OT, 6-6, 330, Rutgers*

A lot of people would expect to see Trent Williams go here. Williams could be the pick, but I feel the Seahawks who need a left tackle will be more sold on Davis' ability to play on the left side than they will Williams. Davis does has his issues, and some things to work on. But projecting forward, Davis will likely be a long time starter on the left side and Williams will likely be a right tackle or possibly a guard. I once thought the Seahawks would be interested in Jimmy Clausen, but with the aquisition of former Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst I think those chances are greatly diminished.

Plan B: Eric Berry, S/CB, Tennessee

7. Cleveland Browns - Eric Berry, S/CB, 6-0, 211, Tennessee*

I really don't think Cleveland should hesitate here if Eric Berry is available. By most accounts Berry is at worst the 4th best player in this class. In a division with the now pass happy Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger and a young and upcoming offense in Baltimore the Browns can't pass on a defensive back with Berry's versatility and skill set. It's hard to guage what the Browns interest could be in Jimmy Clausen, so I wouldn't completely count that out.

Plan B: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame

8. Oakland Raiders - Trent Williams, OT, 6-5, 305, Oklahoma

It's somewhat hard to anticipate which combine star the Raiders will take this year, but I think Trent Williams makes the most sense. Of all the combine sensations, Williams has the most overall value and fits a need for the Raiders. Jason Pierre-Paul, Bruce Campbell, and Taylor Mays will probably all get consideration here, but I think Williams will edge out Pierre-Paul by a small margin.

Plan B: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida

9. Buffalo Bills - Jimmy Clausen, QB, 6-3, 222, Notre Dame*

This is a reach in my opinion based on my rankings. But almost every year two things happen in the first round, somebody reaches for a quarterback, and the Bills reach for a player. The biggest need for the Bills is a viable starting quarterback. Clausen may or may not be the guy, but I would be surprised to see the Bills pass on Clausen if he's availble. Physically he has the tools. The mental aspect of the game is the part that will remain up in the air for now.

Plan B: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee

10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Earl Thomas, FS, 5-10, 208, Texas#

There are several directions the Jags could go here. Many of the Jaguar fans actually hope it's Tim Tebow. Earl Thomas seems to make the most sense from a need/value standpoint. The Jags have a big need on defense at free safety where former first round disappointment Reggie Nelson has been playing. The big problem is Nelson doesn't tackle. The Jags could also opt for Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain, or Tennesee's Dan Williams. Either way they go, I expect the Jags to take a defensive player to sure up a spot somewhere in the middle.

Plan B: Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama
