Here's what I would do.

1.Offer the Jets a fifth round pick for Alan Faneca. Why would they take it? If they are planning to release him, the pick is helping them and it saves them 5.5 million. If they cut him they have to pay that but not if they trade him.

Now. Put Faneca at LG

Put Pouncey at Center. Tomlin was worried about him having to give line calls early but they can let Faneca do that as he used to do when he was line captain.

Move Kemo to RG. They've always talked about him as a Mauler. That's perfect for RG.

So now you have

LT-Starks
LG-Faneca
C-Pouncey
RG-Kemoeatu
RT-Colon

What do you guys think? Pretty good line and it only cost us a 5th rounder.

Pouncy would have to be beastly as well as really smart to upend Hartwig with the way our coaches are

Why would we pay Faneca big money now, when we didn't want to when he was two years younger?

Faneca didn't really play well the last year he was here.. Also we got by without him to win the Super Bowl the next year. The guy is in his twilight of his career.. And with the Jets being a "now team" it speaks volumes that they don't even want him anymore..

Hmm, this plan seems heavily dependent on the Jets' willingness to accept jack shit in return for a highly talented player. They look more like they're in the business of trading away jack shit and getting highly talented players in return.

Now that you mention it, though ... The Jets accepting a Holmes-for-Faneca trade seems a hell of a lot more likely than a 5th-rounder-for-Faneca trade. Too bad we can't call backsies.

It sounded to me that the main thing that Tomlin was concerned about was Pouncy having to call line plays early...but Faneca used to call them so if Faneca comes back, problem solved. Pouncy does need to practice the close snap (non-shotgun) but still...

This is a non salary cap year so we can give him a big bonus (which won't count against the cap when we resume) and then give him small yearly salaries of 3 million per year. This way he won't kill us with 8 mill per year.
