Default Baltimore Ravens Success in 2010 Will Fall On Joe Flacco's Shoulders

Baltimore Ravens Success in 2010 Will Fall On Joe Flacco's Shoulders

The Baltimore Ravens gave the fans a treat this offseason, of being more active than they have had in recent years.

It started with the signing of Dante Stallworth, and the acquisition of Anquan Boldin, to bolster the weak receiving corps.

The draft was also a resource for the Ravens, who added youth to the defense and brought in young, athletic tight ends for the future.

And now the pressure will shift to quarterback Joe Flacco, who enters his third season as a starter.

In his first two years, Flacco has not received nearly as much of the blame for the team's losses. In his rookie season, Flacco was a game manager who relied on the power of the running game and the defense for victory.

Year two was another step for Flacco, who had more freedom in the offense, but still couldn't be fully counted on each and every week.

However, as he enters his third season, it will be time for Flacco to take control of the offense, despite the running game he has behind him.

General manager Ozzie Newsome granted the fans wishes of improving the weapons for Flacco to throw to.

Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason, Dante Stallworth, and Mark Clayton are the top receivers on the depth chart. Tight ends Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta were also selected in the later rounds, to improve the resources for Flacco.

Now is the time for Flacco to take the next step. There is a small window for a possible championship within the next few years, as age surrounds the roster in many ways.

Flacco has disappointed Baltimore in some aspects, but with the receivers he had, who can blame him?

Joe now has the weapons around him to find success this season. The NFL is quickly becoming a pass-happy league, and it was only sooner rather then later for the Ravens to finally catch on for this philosophy.

He will face more pressure than he ever has in his career, and is taking the steps to improve on his performance.

Whether working with his new receivers in the offseason or becoming a vocal leader to the rookies next week, Flacco is ready to become the new face of the Baltimore Ravens.

And a statement can be made by bringing a championship back to the city of Baltimore

The guy moves so slowly that you could paint his portrait when he drops back to pass.
