Default Steelers' Harrison earns another honor

Steelers' Harrison earns another honor
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10133/1057952-100.stm

More than four months after the 2009 season ended, Steelers linebacker James Harrison earned another honor.

Harrison joined teammate LaMarr Woodley on the Associated Press All-Pro second team as a result of an unprecedented revote conducted this week.

The AP called for a revote of the 50 media members on its panel after the NFL suspended linebacker Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans for the first four games of the season for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2009. Cushing won the NFL defensive player of the year award in the original AP vote in a landslide, and earned enough votes to be placed on the All-Pro second team.

Ballots were recast for the rookie of the year award and for the outside linebackers on the All-Pro team. Cushing remained the winner of the rookie award in a much closer vote, but lost his spot on the All-Pro team.

In the new count, Harrison and Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears tied for fourth behind Woodley and all three are on the All-Pro second team.

Harrison was first-team All-Pro in 2008 when he won the NFL defensive player of the year award. He also has made the past three Pro Bowls.

If he can continue these feats throughout the length of his contract he may get a bid into the HOF when it's all over despite only starting 3 years. Check out the list:

2 Super Bowl champion (XL, XLIII)
3 Pro Bowl selection (2007, 2008, 2009)
2 All-Pro selection (2007, 2008)
Second Team All-Pro selection (2009)
2008 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year
2008 Tuesday Morning Quarterback Non-QB Non-RB NFL MVP Award Winner
2008 GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Year Winner
2 AFC Defensive Player of the Month (November 2007, October 2009)
Longest play in Super Bowl history - 100 yard interception return for a touchdown

No question he was a 1st team all pro in '08. He had the best season of any linebacker in Steeler history (which is pretty equivalent to saying he had one of the best seasons of any linebacker ever).

It was probably a bit undeserved in '07 even though he had a great season. But yes, he did make the 1st team.

harrison is a great OLB but i think he only has a year or 2 tops left. he is our highest paid player this year and the steelers always seem to cut them when they get up there in age.

Agreed I don't think Harrison has much left in the tank like you said maybe a year or two. That is why we drafted Worilds now so he can replace harrison in a couple of years. People are scratching there heads on this pick but they will see why in the near future.

i tink both worilds and gibson can be really good OLB's. alot of people dont think much about Gibson because of were he was drafted but i have 3 different draft magazines at home that consider him a 2nd round prospect. Gibson is a beast and like Worilds he is also fast so agter a little coaching they should be good in coverage as well
