Default This Seahawks fan's two cents, for what it's worth

First off, let me start off by congratulating your Steelers for winning the Super Bowl. I am not angry with the Steelers, or any Pittsburgh fans for that matter. I have always liked the Steelers since I was a kid growing up in the 70's. It just so happens that I grew up in Seattle and fell in love with the Seahawks, and so to this day I bleed blue and green.

As you can imagine, I wasn't happy with how things turned out on Sunday. Even though I do believe the officiating was horrid, I also acknowledge that my Seahawks made a lot of mistakes, and still had a couple of chances to win the game. To be honest, I don't think either team played particularly well, though I think Seattle looked strong in the first quarter.

I just wanted to let you guys know that not all Seahawk fans hate the Steelers, and that a lot of our emotion and anger just carries over to the Steelers and their fans, because they are more accessible than the NFL front office and offcials. While we know we can't change the outcome of the game, a lot of us feel like if we are outspoken enough we can force the NFL and Paul Tagliabue to address the poor officiating that has permeated the league, including your game against Indy.

A lot of the Seattle fans are beginning to put the game behind us, though of course we won't forget it. We will begin to look forward to next season, just as you all will. It's just that it took us 30 years to get to the Super Bowl and we feel like we weren't given the same opportunity to win the game as Pittsburgh. I don't mean that to sound like whining or trash-talking. I'm just trying to let you understand why we're so frustrated. Had we completely sucked and been blown out by an obviously better team, there would be no complaints.

Please realize that it is not just Seahawk fans who are upset about the officiating. Most of the complaints are coming out of national media outlets, such as FoxSports and ESPN. We just hope that the NFL does something in the offseason to fix the problem. It is not my intention to ruin your championship or take anything away from you and the Steelers. But like any loyal fan, we're just standing up for what we believe in and choose not to take it on the chin.

You guys have a great team to support, and it wouldn't surprise me if we meet in Super Bowl XLI. Roethlisberger is a good leader, Parker is a great young back, and your defense is tough and emotional. Going into the game, I hated Joey Porter. But after seeing his comments about the Seahawks on post game shows (BDSSP - Fox), I like and respect him.

Good luck in the offseason and celebrate your victory. You guys worked hard to get to the Super Bowl, and the fans turned out for the game in large numbers. Just remember that our Seahawks plan on returning to the Super Bowl next year to take the trophy home!

I can understand and probably more importantly RESPECT your take....I seem to recall Seahawk fans that are acting very childish about the whole thing. I can't say as though I'd be any different if it happened to us......WAIT......IT DID VS THE COLTS. I honestly don't believe that the officiating in this game was as one sided as many people seem to think. Seattle got away with many holding calls I felt....Ben was blocked in the back on this pick.....and Hasslebeck did fumble the ball. He was grazed before he slid. Not the same as down by contact. In a broadbrush statement, officiating was bad at times. But it went both ways. Seattle has a great team....sometimes it takes more than one shot to win it. If they can keep Shaun or get a suitable replacement, then I think you have a good shot at coming back.

I don`t think anyone here would argue that officiating sucks! We`ve been screwed regularly. Alot of the calls sunday were judgement calls, what are you going to do! And I understand being bitter, but they have to let it go. In Pittsburgh, I was at the parade, its over, but ESPN, NFL Network won`t let the seahawks statements die, so it has tainted our win.
Your comments will go over well here! You seem very knowledgable, and a good Haks fan. So thank you. You may want to consider sticking around, we have a great forum here, with alot of outsiders!

I agree the officiating has been terrible throughout the entire playoffs but great teams overcome bad officiating to win (see Steelers - Colts game).

It happens...besides, some of the calls being complained about in this game were the right calls.

High fives to you for having a brain, dignity, and a real passion for your team.

I fully expect to see Seattle doing great things next season, and I hope that there comes a time where the Steelers and the Hawks can meet again - this time, with both teams playing their real game. I'm sure there will be more bad calls - but really, when aren't there?

I agree that both teams weren't at their best. A match up between Pitt and Seattle is going to look COMPLETELY different from what we saw on Superbowl Sunday, and not simply because of officiating.

And lastly, thank you for being a REAL fan - I've seen a lot of wagon-hoppers lately and as a Steeler fan since birth (I wore black and gold to school in sixth grade during SuperBowl 30 - in the middle of Cowboy Country!) it's refreshing to see people who support their team regardless of stats.

I think one of the thing that has befuddled Seahawks fans and the media is the LACK of penalties throughout the season and then a lot of them during the Super Bowl. Not to mention that were comparatively few were called against the Steelers. To some, that seemed biased. Not saying the complaints weren't warranted and the feelings were justified, just trying to help explain where some of them might be coming from...

Nice words, thanks for stopping by. We agree that the officiating needs to take another level. Sorry you were one to be the butt of controversy this time.

This is a nice change of pace. We had a lot of Seahawks fans trolling the boards. I have a lot of respect for a fan like you. Thanks for the post. Good luck in your off season as well.
