Station Square Tailgating

So we have received varying reports from PITT people whether you are allowed to tailgate at Station Square prior to PITT football games. We would love to take the ferry over to the game, but seeing as Bars don't open till 11 (unless someone can tell us a place open earlier than that), we would like to tailgate in the Station Square lot. Nothing fancy as we are flying in, probably just some prepackaged food and beer.

Any thoughts?

I have done it before but perfer the parking lot at the stadium. You'll have to bring your own beer because the bars won't serve you until 11am
