Default The truth: Refs made ONE bad call

The truth is that the referees only made one bad call against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl: the call against Hasselbeck for an illegal tackle. And did that really influence the outcome? No.

Anyone that disputes the referee calls should read two articles:

1. In this article Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher defends the referees. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs....602070353/1027

2. An NFL analyst defends the referees here. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default...ABN4003143.htm

It's easy to get caught up in the hype and buy into the notion that the referees blew a lot of calls. But it's untrue.

At first I was buying into the hype. Not anymore. After you've had time to calmly review the game in the peace and quiet of your home any reasonable person can see that the referees made the right call in the 3 "game turning" plays: the Roethlisberger TD, the Darrell Jackson interference call and the Locklear holding call.

There WAS interference. There WAS holding. And there was NOT clear evidence to overturn the Roethlisberger TD. Period. End of story.

Whether interference or holding was called on similar plays during the regular season is irrelevant. The bottom line is interference and holding DID occur so the referees were justfied in throwing the flags. Notice how people that dispute the calls say things such as "Come on. That was barely holding." or "If that's holding then there's holding on every play." Notice that none of those are denials that there was holding or interference. Barely holding IS holding. And just because a referee didn't call holding on a similar previous play doesn't mean he can't now call holding. Holding occurred. Interference occurred. Period.

The question is NOT whether holding and interference calls were made by referees on similar plays during the regular season. The question is: Did the referees call holding and interference on the Seahawks but neglect to call holding and interference on the Steelers when Steelers players did things similar to the Darrell Jackson interference and Locklear hold? And the answer is no. The referees in the Super Bowl were consistent.

To further backup the truth, Inside the NFL on HBO showed the same exact thing during the first five minutes of the show.

All doubters should watch and learn. They will probably still whine though...

THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TELLING PEOPLE HERE IN SYRACUSE FOR THE LAST WEEK. THE HASSELBECK CALL WAS THE ONLY ONE QUESTIONABLE TO ME TOO. NO ONE MENTIONS THE MISSED CALLS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN IN OUR FAVOR. BEN BEING BLOCKED IN THE BACK, HASSELBECK FUMBLE....

The illegal block was the only one I had a problem with as well -- which is why I posted a new thread about it last week. It's the only one I couldn't figure out...
