The Steelers announced today that Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert has signed a five-year contract extension with the team.
Colbert, 53, enters his 11th season with the Steelers after originally being named to the position in 2000. Financial terms of the deal were not released. “We are very pleased to announce that Kevin Colbert will remain with the Steelers for at least several more years,” said Steelers’ President Art Rooney II. “Kevin is without question one of the best in the NFL at his job and we are fortunate that he will continue to lead our football operations into the future.” Colbert, a Pittsburgh native, has helped lead the Steelers to two Super Bowl titles (Super Bowl XL and XLIII), five division championships and six playoff berths during his first 10 seasons with the team. “I am very thankful to Art and Mr. Rooney for the opportunity to continue my career with the Pittsburgh Steelers,” said Colbert. “Our organization will be faced with many challenges in the coming season and beyond. I look forward to working with the Rooneys and Coach Tomlin as we pursue our only acceptable goal – a Super Bowl title.” Colbert oversees the Steelers’ player personnel and scouting operations and is the club’s liaison with the NFL office and other NFL teams on football matters. He served as the Detroit Lions’ pro scouting director from 1990-99. Colbert began his NFL career as a BLESTO scout in 1984 before spending five seasons as a college scout (1985-89) with the Miami Dolphins. Awesome news. I actually had a feeling Colbert would of left us in the recent future and going under a Cowher led regime when he eventually comes back since they had such a great relationship together.
Colbert is a major asset to this team and simply knows exactly who and what we need.

My heart actually fluttered as I read this headline

I love his drafting in the first couple of rounds but his mid-to-late round evaluations are terrible. I guess in so much as free agency is concerned he does what he can with the capital the Rooney family gives him. I'm glad he'll be here for a while.

Yeah...he's only born, raised and went to high school and college in Pittsburgh and has been the GM of the Steelers (the team he no doubt grew up rooting for) since 2000 and just got a 5 year extension.
You're right though...he's on his way out. ![]() I for one am excited about his extension. He's truly one of the best GM's in all of pro sports. |
