I've met Ernie a few times over the years....at Collector's Shows....He was a very nice guy, however you could tell that he had Alzheimer's. He would be talking to you and change gears to where you didn't realize you were in the same conversation. It was sad to see. Rest in Peace Ernie....

Ernie Stautner played in an era of rough, often brutal football. To imagine he made it through 14 years in those days - incredible. While Stautner's Steelers never won a championship, the set the tone for tough, aggressive, hard-hitting Steelers defensive football. If the Steelers didn't beat you, they beat you up.
