Default 10 Things To Look For Sunday Versus Denver In Preseason Game 3

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2010/08...season-game-3/

Is There A Long Snapping Battle? - Out of nowhere the Steelers re-signed Matt Stewart last week. Stewart was with the Steelers prior to training camp and also has spent time working at linebacker in the NFL. Mike Tomlin said Friday that Stewart will get an in-game look against Denver as a long snapper and was brought in as competition and to push Greg Warren.

this is noteworthy because the last 2 times we brought in and played anew long snapper we won the superbowl.

in preseason 2005 rookie greg warren was brought in to replace mike schneck in a cap saving move.

in 2008 greg warren was injured in tthe early season giants game and was replaced with udfa street free agent jarod retkofsky.

I'm still annoyed that neither Sanders nor Brown got a chance to study and play the Y (slot). ARE was awarded the spot with no competition.

Interesting indeed. It's not everyday you hear about a longsnapper battle though lol.

If he's better than I guess keep him around!

actually tomlin addressed this. both rookies have done well in picking up the #3 we assignments.

he is having sanders learn all 3 spots to possibly get him on the field quicker. not only do they want him to be the potential #3 but if ward gets hurt, he is the primary back up there as well.

As far as hang times, about the same as Reed. I say we stick with him for now.

When did Tomlin adress this? Do you have a link? I've been waiting and waiting to hear about the #3 position.

I don't mind Sanders learning a 3rd position as long as it doesn't slow him down in learning the other 2.

I think it's retarded. Sanders played slot and flanker in college so when he got here, two great positions would have been slot and flanker. Fine with SE. I don't care. I actually think ARE would do a good job backing up Ward as Flanker ...slow and steady. That should be his role.

In recent years, we've always had two fast guys out there. First with Holmes and Nate then Holmes and Wallace. ARE is a drop down in speed. Let's make the fast guys Wallace and Sanders.

Tomlin Plays vets ...Plain and simple...If not for front office pressure to get rookies developed faster....., i'll bet Pouncey would not be thrust into action either...
