Five weeks after he said he was not sure he wanted to play football again, Jerome Bettis apparently has decided he will.
Bettis, making an appearance in Philadelphia yesterday to promote asthma awareness, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he plans to play for the Steelers in 2005 after wavering about his decision since the end of last season. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05099/485632.stm Woooooohooooo! I'm so happy he's decided play another year.

What can you say about Bettis? You think you've held him to 4 yards, and the next thing you know he's gone for 12. You think you've stopped him after 12, and the next thing you know he's gone for 18. He's a clock killing, first down making, machine, who after he's beaten you up for 3 quarters, sticks the knife in you during the 4th. If someone asks me who do you take, Franco Harris, or Jerome Bettis? I'd say, Franco who?

He's still leaving the retirement door open just ever so slightly though still, so keep ur fingers crossed.
Body and mind of one spirit again, Jerome Bettis will report with many of his teammates for the opening of the Steelers' voluntary spring workouts tomorrow. He wants to play one more season; now it's time for his body to let him know if he can. "My plan is to play barring any setback or issues," Bettis said yesterday in a telephone interview from Philadelphia, where he spent several days promoting asthma awareness. Bettis had wavered the past five weeks on his decision to return for 2005. But the only thing that will hold him back now, he said, is his 33-year-old body. He feels good physically and mentally, but he has left an option that, if his body does not respond to the rigors of spring workouts and/or training camp, he may not make it for another season. "Like, if I were not able to do a lot in the spring," Bettis said. "I don't see it happening, but I'm realistic; it is what it is. I don't see a problem. I feel pretty good." http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05100/485936.stm |
