Default Jon Stewart's rally to restore sanity.

http://www.popeater.com/2010/09/17/j..._lnk3%7C171277

'Daily Show' host Jon Stewart announced Thursday that he'll lead a rally on Washington that aims to encourage angry citizens on both sides of the aisle to take it down a notch, or in his words, "stop shouting, throwing and drawing Hitler mustaches on people other than Hitler."

The event has been dubbed the "Rally to Restore Sanity" and will be held on the National Mall on Oct. 30. "It's real," he told his maybe-thinking-he-was-joking audience. "We are gonna do this." Watch Stewart's big announcement:

In a video setting up his case that both political parties have gone overboard, Stewart mixed in pundits like "Birther Queen" Orly Taitz and the "Ragin' Cajun" James Carville. There were images from anti-war rallies and the recent rash of Tea Party events as well. He said the purpose of the rally will be to give the 80 percent of the country who usually "have s**t to do" a chance to rally ... but for sanity, not rage.

In contrast with Glenn Beck's recent religious-y rally on Washington, where signs were openly discouraged, the Comedy Central funnyman urges marchers to go to town. He suggested a couple ideas, including "I Disagree With You, But I'm Pretty Sure You're Not Hitler," and "Take It Down a Notch, America."

I think that's great. I know Stewart takes a lot of flack sometimes from those on the right for his "liberal" outlooks, but in a lot of respects I think he's got his head screwed on a lot tighter than most other media pundits who are actually supposed to be doing serious political shows.

I know the rally won't amount to much, because people generally like being worked up into a frenzy over politics, but it's a solid idea nonetheless.

Yeah, "sanity" just doesn't attract the same sort of zeal that violent divisiveness does. I'll be amazed if much more than his crew and audience show up. That might be precisely his point. It's win-win for him either way in that case.

Remember that at the same time Colbert is holding his March to keep fear alive.

http://www.keepfearalive.com/

America, the Greatest Country God ever gave Man, was built on three bedrock principles: Freedom. Liberty. And Fear -- that someone might take our Freedom and Liberty. But now, there are dark, optimistic forces trying to take away our Fear -- forces with salt and pepper hair and way more Emmys than they need. They want to replace our Fear with reason. But never forget -- "Reason" is just one letter away from "Treason." Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can't afford to take that chance.

So join The Rev. Sir Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A. on October 30th for the "March to Keep Fear Alive"™ in Washington DC. Pack an overnight bag with five extra sets of underwear -- you're going to need them. Because, to Restore Truthiness we must always... Shh!!! What's that sound?! I think there's someone behind you! Run!

Oh man that's classic. Even though I'm conservative on a lot of issues I can't get enough of Colbert and Stewart.
