Don't say it out loud, but are the Buccos on a streak?

Longest streak of the year for the Bucs. The difference has definitely been the pitching.

Word around MLB is that Littlefield is asking too much for what he's willing to give up. Personally, I'm not expecting much. Randa, Burnitz, Hernandez, C. Wilson and even Casey are not exactly mouth watering for other teams in order for us to get that big impact type of player. Same story every year around this time. Trade these guys away and get a few minor league players that probably won't pan out in the long run. Just my two cents. We shall see.

Pirates trade Casey to Detroit
Monday, July 31, 2006

By Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates today traded first baseman Sean Casey to the Detroit Tigers for minor-league reliever Brian Rogers.

Rogers, a 24-year-old right-hander, had a 2.39 ERA and one save in 37 bullpen appearances for Class AA Erie. He was the Tigers' 11th-round pick in the 2003 first-year player draft.

Casey, 32, batted .296 with three home runs and 29 RBIs in 59 games in his only season with the Pirates. He was the team's highest-paid player with a salary of $8.5 million, $1 million of that being covered by the Cincinnati Reds as part of the December trade that brought him to Pittsburgh. He is an Upper St. Clair native.

Can someone please explain to me how Littlefield still has a friggin job? A double-A relief pitcher is the best he could get for Casey??? He would have been better off keeping him and giving him a contract extension, especially since they have no other first base prospects other than Brad Eldred, who lost this season due to injury. Unbelievable. But why should I even be surprised or upset? It's par for the course for this organization - dump salary and get no value in return just to save a few bucks.

It's really not a horrible move. Casey is getting on in years and has a recent history of injury. This opens up at bats for Craig Wilson, assuming he's not traded today.
