Default Steelers fans: Bucs' cheerleaders shouldn't be performing near downed player

Steelers fans: Bucs' cheerleaders shouldn't be performing near downed player

TAMPA -- The Pittsburgh Steelers were attempting a goal line stand. They had a player down. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' cheerleaders had their own end zone assignment.

That made for a clash of priorities -- and some loud booing -- during the final minutes of Pittsburgh's 38-13 win Sunday over the Bucs.

The stadium was loaded with Steelers fans. Marcus Damicone, 38, of Kent, Ohio, was among them.

He said he joined other Pittsburgh fans in booing during the break at the two-minute warning.

With the Bucs facing fourth-and-goal at the Pittsburgh 1, the cheerleaders gathered in the end zone right behind the Pittsburgh defense. Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor was down on the field after being shaken up on the previous play.

"We were booing because it was inappropriate for the cheerleaders to be doing their dance right up against the backs of our defensive players," Damicone said this morning at Tampa airport. "And we thought it was in poor taste that the cheerleaders were doing their routine while some guy was on the field hurt."

Damicone noted that the Steelers don't have cheearleaders.

"Pittsburgh has a more traditional view of the game," he said. "Our defenders practically had to move out of the way while the cheerleaders were doing their gyrations."

The Bucs scored on a 1-yard run by LeGarrette Blount.

Damicone said the crowd was split about evenly between Steelers and Bucs fans.

"We get so much support everywhere we go," said Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.

Doug Auen, 38, of Baltimore, whose family is from Pittsburgh, was among the Steelers fans in the stands. "We had way more fans than they did," said Auen.

He, too, booed during the goal line stand. "There was a player down, and the cheerleaders were basicially right on top of him dancing. That's why they got booed," said Auen.

lol, this is like the dumbest thing ever, they're just cheer leaders..hot chicks bouncing around for everyone's entertainment.

They're kinda like strippers..probably dead inside already, so just let them be and do their dance.
