Ben Participates In 1st Practice Since Suspension

The Steelers welcomed Ben Roethlisberger back Monday afternoon and he took to the practice field for the first time in a month Tuesday morning.

Despite being away from the team for the last four weeks, Roethlisberger appeared to be in mid-season form.

According to KDKA's John Shumway, he looked sharp and at one point, he threw a pass to Heath Miller that was over his head, but Roethlisberger was already apologizing while the ball was still in flight.

He made up for the misfire later by launching a perfect bomb down the sidelines to Mike Wallace.

On Monday, Roethlisberger said he was warmly welcomed back to the team after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Moving forward, he is just looking forward to getting back into games.

"I want to play right away, but it's a good thing to have two weeks of practice to get out there. My arm is ready. The biggest thing is refreshing my mind with these guys and getting my timing down with these guys. It seems like Mike Wallace has gotten faster and I've got to get use to that again," Roethlisberger said.

During Monday's press conference, he praised Charlie Batch for being a consummate professional in leading the Steelers to a 3-1 record.

Roethlisberger was also impressed with the speed of Wallace, who caught two long touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.

Roethlisberger will have about two weeks to find his rhythm again as the team is currently on a bye week.

The Steelers will take on the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17, and you can watch the game on KDKA-TV.

If he can consistently hit Wallace in stride on the fly patterns, then this offense could be as good as the defense.

That is a scary thought!

All I know is, is let the Experts say all they want to about the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons . . the AFC is stacked with 3 Dominating Defensive Teams that can Beat any of those forementioned here. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets with potentialy the offense with Ben back for the Steelers of course, can produce enough points with our Defenses to Dominate any comers from that NFC side in my opinion.
I am glad to see Ben back with the team, I just hope that our Defense can get past this loss with them thinking that they are untouchable. Our defense should not be giving up points in the 4th Qtr. like they did this past Sunday and all of last season if we expect to win these big games.

NFL from the sidelines

After hobnobbing around the NFL in the press boxes and sidelines, sports reporter Dale Lolley will let you know the insider scoop.

Roethlisberger looks good
http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/

After watching Ben Roethlisberger throw the ball around the Steelers' indoor facility today, you had to come away impressed.

Charlie Batch didn't practice, but Byron Leftwich did. And the differences between Leftwich and Roethlisberger's passes were easy to spot.

Not one of Roethlisberger's passes fell incomplete and there were a couple of occasions when Roethlisberger slipped a pass into a tight spot, eliciting a "Woah," from some of his teammates.

He was that good Tuesday.

© I've heard a lot of talk about how the Steelers shouldn't change their offensive philosophy now that Roethlisberger is back.

After all, the team is 3-1 with its current run-heavy offensive balance.

But anyone who expects Rashard Mendenhall to make it through the season with his current workload is delusional.

Mendenhall is on pace to log more than 350 carries. Add in some receptions and he'll be up over 375 touches.

That's too many.

Yes, the Steelers still need to be able to run the ball. But they're not paying Roethlisberger $102 million to hand the ball off.

Awesome! Great to hear all these reports that he's practicing so well right off the bat. I have no doubt he'll be good and ready to go on gameday!
