Are We Getting the Same Pass Rush as We did in '08-09?

I was just wondering if people thought we were getting the same dominant pass rush that we saw in the 08-09 Super Bowl season, excluding the Baltimore game. If you don't think so, what do you think accounts for the drop-off since, for the most part, we have the same players (except Timmons who is a plus)?

i think alot has to do with gameplanning against the teams we have played so far. ravens, titans, atl, (and even tampa bay to some degree) arent exactly teams known for giving up 40-50 sacks a year. plus they are run oriented offenses with very productive backs (excluding tampa).

there are times you dial up a blitz, guess wrong, and get gashed for a 30+ yard run. i think the longest run the steelers have given up this year is less than 10 yards.

i think its a risk reward type deal. once we are playing with bigger lead, the defense will be able to pin its ears back.

Teams are playing them different. No seven step drops, you even see a lot of three step drops against them. Teams aren't taking many downfield chances against them. And being as most of the games have been close their opponents haven't had to abandon that strategy and take downfield risks. There's a good chance with Ben back we'll see some games where they can get some seperation on the scoreboard going into the 4th quarter, and then you'll likely see the sacks start to accumulate.

It seems that teams are doing better against Harrison and Woodley, but the interior linemen are getting more sacks. Smith, Hampton, Kiesel and their backups might not be pass rushers, but they are 300+ pound forces of nature. In the 3-4 these guys are usually double teamed so the linebackers can make the sacks, but since the linebackers are being double teamed the linemen are 1 on 1 with blockers and doing a very good job at getting to the quarterback and causing bad throws.

our 11 sacks average out to about 3/game and extrapolates to a yearly total of 44 which is lower than production in the past few years but not by more than a sack per game. 3 by DL/ 7 by LB's and 1 by william gay.

worilds - 1

the silver lining is our interceptions is up.

Yeah, I believe our turnovers in general are way up. It says something when you have guys the size of Keisel and Woodley bringing back INTs. They're being asked to do more, not just stop the run and sack.

my complaint with the ratbird game was that they seldom brought the blitz on flacco , which isn't the way they've beat flacco in the past. flacco makes mistakes when he's pressured , not when he gets 4 or 5 seconds to throw the damn ball.

Him and his center have gotten better at calling protection schemes, blitzing him as of late for any team hasn't ended well... remember the last play of the game >=| He called like the perfect protection
