In a series that began in 1971, the Steelers have won four straight against the Dolphins and have an 11-9 regular-season edge. In their last game against the Dolphins, the Steelers finished the 2009 season with a 30-24 win at Sun Life Stadium. When the Steelers won 13-3 at Miami in September of ’04, just after a hurricane ripped through South Florida, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made his first career start. The Dolphins are 2-1 against the Steelers in the playoffs with both of wins coming in the AFC Championship Game (1972 and 1984).
As the Steelers play the first of three straight away games, they do so with the team in an uproar over the $75,000 fine levied against star linebacker James Harrison for his hit last week on Cleveland’s Mohamed Massaquoi.
Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel is out with a hamstring pull. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Nick Eason. Trai Essex is questionable as he continues to recover from a sprained ankle. So Doug Legursky will make his fourth straight start at right guard. The Dolphins are in good shape. Fullback Lousaka Polite, who played at Pitt, is questionable (knee). Inside linebacker Karlos Dansby (knee) is probable.
“Needless to say, this is a very emotional thing for James. He’s a very disciplined and regimented guy. He’s passionate about the game of football. It bothers him maybe that he’s being perceived as a dirty player. He doesn’t desire to be. He simply wants to play the game and play extremely well.”
