This sucks. I noticed his play on ST. Why couldn't they place someone else on waivers? Surely, there must have been someone else that would have been a sure clear?

Probably so but the Steelers under Tomlin are developing a rep of being as fond of keeping or bringing back aging vets as George Allen's R edskins were in the 70s - Madison (PG reporter Gerry Dulac's choice to be exposed towaivers) or Battle both would seem to reasonable alternatives that might have cleared waivers and who have no chance whatsoever of ever being a starter

Burning through LB candidiates in the draft that you quickly let go while the D ages is going to start to really hurt in the next several years

I agree. Battle belonged on the waiver wire. We're only dressing Sanders or Brown, so if need be dress them both. Battle could have gone, but I doubt anybody grabs him off waivers anyway. We basically gave away our 4th round pick this year for nothing.
Does it hurt us this year? No, but I think it may 3 years from now.

Yes. Battle. I don't get it. What the hell are they thinking putting that kind of player out there? And I agree, this will bite them in the butt 3 years from now...maybe even sooner.

I think the Steelers should have released Arnez Battle or Antwan Randle El. Unfortunately releasing Randle El might have made the Steelers look like they don't support veterans or think of players as disposable.

Releasing one of those 2 would have meant that Sanders always dresses and Brown and McClendon could have battled for the extra spot once Keisel is fully healthy.

I did like Gibson. They said he showed some promise even more than Worilds at times...but Worilds was a protected 2nd round pick. It's good for him though if he can get on the field in SF. I'm glad he didn't stay in the division. We have too much overstock at LB. Hopefully this means we will resign Woodley and let Worilds develop.

I can't blame Tomlin. What if either Hood or Eason had gotten hurt?
It just made the coaching job easier. This is the 3rd time they had had to move McClendon. Now they can relax and keep him. We still have 8 LB with Worilds and Timmons capable of playing outside. All they have to do is make no coverage duties if Worilds has to play...simple. If they are uncomfortable, move Timmons and play Foote.

I liked Gibson as well. Our 4th round pick and he is only a rookie with a lot of potential for the future. I just wish Tomlin put someone else on there, but I am just repeating what everyone else had already said...

Who wants to place a bet that Gibson will have more tackles for the 49ers (special teams or otherwise) than Battle inside of the next two or three weeks?
