Default Even Troy Polamalu occasionally has bad game

ESPN AFC North columnist James Walker writes what I also saw last night (as opposed to Collinsworth's spin that every missed tackle by Troy was a great play by someone for the Saints)

The Pittsburgh Steelers' do-it-all safety had his worst game in years during Sunday's 20-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Polamalu and Saints Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees were involved in a chess match, and Brees won most of those matchups by catching Polamalu out of position several times for big gains. Polamalu struggled to get a read on Brees and was a step or two late on big plays. Polamalu also missed tackles he usually makes in what was a rare, subpar performance by his standards.

No questions the bursts of sheer brilliance are still there (the pick on Matt Ryan/the goal line tackle of Collins in Tennessee) and #43 is my favorite Steeler from this era of success.

This is not a hangover induced sky is falling post the day after a disappointing but certainly not season-defining loss, but something just seems off with #43, who perhaps recognizes his football career has more yesterdays than tomorrows:

"It's such a tough game on your body," he said. "But you can't really think about that. I just keep going out there because my passion to play for my teammates and sacrifice for them outweighs my fear of getting injured."

it was definitely a weak game for him.. i know he hasn't really done much statistically over the past few games now.. but teams weren't really throwing his way either. with the Saints, we saw them attack the Steelers and Polamalu downfield for really the first time this season.

when i noticed Troy on the sidelines shaking his head a couple different times and looking listless (didn't look like he had a fire in his eyes), i knew things were going to go downhill from there. And they did.
Although, it wasn't a total loss for the night, he did have a couple strong looking tackles.

Possibly the pussification of the game by Goodell has made him lose his heart and fire for the game?

Or perhaps getting yet another concussion when he got smashed in the helmet by a Cleveland RB and knocked out of the the Cleveland game?

Pittsburgh's [Ryan] Clark pointed to a hit by Browns running back Peyton Hillis on Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. "Hillis runs straight at Troy, [lowers his head] and earholes him with his helmet," said Clark. "Troy can't play the rest of the game because he's woozy. Nobody says anything about that."

Back in 2006 when Troy got concussed in that Saints game there was a concern about his history of brain traumas going back to USC - he has earned financial security and seems grounded enough to know there is a life worth living after football

Troy really hasn't been Troy since the Tampa Bay game.
