Default Titans claim Randy Moss

Titans claim Randy Moss

The Tennessee Titans claimed former Minnesota Vikings recevier Randy Moss on waivers Wednesday.

Moss plans to report to the Titans, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

If Moss does not report to the Titans, Tennessee will send him a "5-day" letter and at the end of that five days, they have the right to put him on the Reserve/Left Squad list. He would be out for the remainder of the season once the club takes that action. Moss' status for next year would be determined by terms of the new collective bargaining agreement.

Moss, going to his third team this season, will be welcomed at least initially. Safety Michael Griffin tweeted "welcome Randy Moss" and All Pro running back Chris Johnson had been lobbying for the Titans to pick up Moss as well.

The Titans were faced with the absence of receiver Kenny Britt, who hurt his right hamstring on the Titans' second drive in a 33-25 loss at San Diego in Week 8. The Titans don't know how much time he'll miss yet because Britt is still having tests on his leg, though coach Jeff Fisher said he would tell reporters if the injury was bad enough to end Britt's season.

Moss hit the waiver wire Tuesday after catching 13 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns in four games with the Vikings. They lost three of those four games to drop to 2-5 heading into Sunday's game against Arizona.

Earlier Wednesday, Vikings coach Brad Childress called the acquisition of Moss from the New England Patriots "a poor decision."

Childress declined to answer repeated questions about the specifics of the decision, including the motives behind it and who he consulted before placing him on waivers.

"It was a poor decision," Childress said. "I've got to stand up and I have to make it right. When it's not right, you need to make it right."

Moss first raised some eyebrows in the Vikings locker room last Friday when he berated a caterer who brought in food for the team after practice.

"I wouldn't do it," Brett Favre said. "I was sitting in my locker eating the food. I thought it was pretty good."

Moss also showed little effort to catch a pass near the end zone in the loss to the Patriots on Sunday, but the final straw may have come after the game.

Moss gave a rambling statement to the media after the 28-18 loss, gushing with praise for coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots and criticizing Vikings coaches for not listening to his game plan input during the week.

Favre said that he, like most of the players on the team, was "a little bit shocked" when Childress informed them Monday that Moss would not be back. But he also said support for the team "never wavered."

Just saw that on NFL network.. Titans pretty much only throw the ball down the field on play action plays so it could work out?

Jeff Fisher is also a strong coach; when Moss perceives weakness
he calls it out, and Chilli has been branded as non-credible since day
one. Once Moss feels that, he gets difficult. I don't think he will feel
the same thing with Fisher. He will respect him more, as he did
Belichick. Also, if all Moss is asked to do is go deep from time to time,
he can do that. Well, as of lately, he even "quit" on some of those plays,
so we will see. I think he just wanted out of MN, period.

Moss can workout with the Titans. But being a disruption could come back to haunt him. Ask the Vikes and the Pats!

Best of luck to the Titans with this guy. Maybe Moss will come to play, maybe he won't. I know I sure wouldn't want to take any chances on him.

Fisher keeps his players in check, I don't know how, but he's a really smart guy and knows how to psychologically control players. Everyone is different so he knows what technique to use depending on the player. Vince Young had that whole "i'm gonna kill myself" stage a couple years ago, but Fisher talked to him, and since then he's been pretty solid. Not great, but he doesn't turn the ball over or make stupid plays. I think Moss will be a true test to see how good Fisher is as a head coach.

Titans now have 3 recievers that can go deep. Defenses can't double team 3 deep threats, so I think this could be a good pick up for the Titans.

Good luck with that.....some people just never learn. I guess the Titans didn't have enough drama already with the overly sensitive QB on the roster.

Game plan.....double team Moss the first 10-15 plays of the game and he quits.

Tough to beat any team when you're playing 10 against 11. Just like everywhere else he's been.....this will end badly.
