The comment about the strained Achilles tendon for Polamalu certainly was not a burst of sunshine - wonder how long that has been bothering him?

we shoulda beat the raiders and chiefs last year too, thats what scares me. ever since tomlin took over i learned to never expect a win in 'easy' games. I've never seen a coach that fell in more trap games than him

Did the Patriots show anything they hadn’t shown? What was central to your defensive performance?

They’ve got a time-tested body of work. That core group of guys has been together a number of years. To say we saw something we hadn’t seen before would be a stretch. Their personality changes from week to week but it’s still them. They did what they do better than we did what we do. That’s why they were successful.
Quote:
I’m not going to try to anticipate what it is they’re going to do, in terms of their decision-making and how they match up against us. They are a team that’s coming off of a bye week. I’m sure they’d put together a portion of their plan prior to us even playing New England. I would imagine a team that’s hot and won its last three games is going to continue to do what it’s done, but I’ll also acknowledge that we’ve got some unflattering tape out there that might be a window into how to attack us, maybe, if they’re looking. We’ll see on Sunday I guess.
and herein lies a MAJOR problem (a problem that goes back to the days of cowher) and probably originates with chuck noll and our HOF team in the 70's.

the steelers are sometimes stubbornly obsessed with "imposing their will". they will do what they do and force their opponents to adjust to them.

well, belichick adjusted to them years ago and has beating them ever since.

tomlin is right. the patriots change every week, and devise a gameplan specific to that weeks particular opponents strengths and weaknesses. as we learned from arians, the steelers wouldnt even practice offense against a 4-3 defense.

this is stubborn, boneheaded, and 20 years behind the curve. while it may work 3 out of 4 times, todays teams are much better than that.

of course belichick seems like he knows what we are doing before we do it, because we always do the same thing. we are that predictable. he doesnt need our signals taped to know what we will do with jerome betis in thebackfield or what we will run w/o a true fullback. the steelers dont change it up and he knows that. he can expect the steelers defense to play the same way they did when they last faced brady.

as seen in this tomlin presser, he doesnt even deny it.

too many fans have cried about our loss because of a "lack of emotion" or that a better cb than gay or mcfadden woulda made the difference. bullshit. we lost because of a flawed plan, that had about ZERO chance of even coming close to being executed perfectly.

next time give them something they arent expecting, coaches! its the only way we got past the colts in 05 and on our way to SBXL.

Tomlin is slowly losing all credibility. The guy doesn't look like he has any clue but man, can he talk! I wish he was less literate and much more tactical.
Oh well ........................

I really liked him when they hired him. I still think he will be okay but he needs a new experienced offensive coord from out of our system (inject new blood). He is clueless about the offense and so is BA.

His rhetoric, which I found entertaining at first, is becoming a bit annoying. Sometimes he should just answer a question without making it a frickin' riddle.

wow. THAT was a pretty unimpressive conference. Couple things i took away from reading that...
not much will change defensively. He almost sounds defiant, like in a state-of-denial that his defensive backfield is horrendous. He acknowledged the short passes underneath, yet made no adjustment for it and not much of an explanation on why they didn't do so.

also, his rhetoric and standard answers seem to be getting old, don't they? Real old. Say something different once in a while, man. His "talk" was interesting the first year, now its gotten very stale. It doesn't look like his press conferences will ever change.

I used to be a big Tomlin supporter and while i haven't jumped off the wagon yet, i'm starting to come up with questions about all of this. I'm just not sure he's the right guy for this team. But he's who we have. He's not going anywhere for a long time. This "stubborness" thing is starting to piss me off.

I've backed off my Arians hate a little bit lately and have shifted it somewhat to Tomlin. I mentioned elsewhere that Tomlin might just be like Barry Switzer (or even George Seifert) ... not a great coach, but an adequate coach who had the good fortune of taking over a solid team and quickly winning a Super Bowl.

In the case of Switzer and Seifert, their success was directly related to what had been put in place for them. Switzer went away and Seifert never again achieved the same level of success. Does Tomlin fall into this category? Only time will tell. But based on what I've seen the past two seasons, I'm leaning toward yes.
