SERIES HISTORY

The Raiders and Steelers developed a hatred for each other in the 1970s because they faced each other so often in postseason play. Starting in 1972, they played five straight years in the playoffs including the 1974, ‘75 and ‘76 AFC championship games. It was the first playoff game ever between them that ignited the fierce rivalry. That was the Steelers’ 13-7 win at Three Rivers Stadium when Franco Harris caught the “Immaculate Reception.” In regular season play, the Raiders lead the series against the Steelers 10-8. In playoff games, they’re tied 3-3.

TODAY’S STORYLINE

After starting 6-2 for the fourth straight season, the Steelers (6-3) want to avoid a meltdown like last year. Their playoff hopes were all but snuffed out after opening the second half of ’09 with five straight losses. The second half this year has already started off badly for the Steelers as they were crushed last week by the Patriots, 39-26. Today, the Steelers face the improved Raiders (5-4) in a battle of teams tied for first place in their respective divisions.

INJURY REPORT

The Steelers list DE Brett Keisel as questionable, which means he has a 50/50 chance of playing. Whether he plays will probably depend on how his injured hamstring feels in pre-game warm-ups. Keisel has essentialy missed the last four games after he tried playing Nov. 8 in Cincinnati but had to leave after only a few snaps.

Three Raiders starters are listed as questionable: CB Nnamdi Asomugha (ankle), WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (hamstring) and TE Zach Miller (foot).

QUOTEWORTHY

“I’ve never been a rah-rah voice. I might pull guys aside and talk to them. It’s always been about action for me. It’s time now for me at this point of the season to being more of a vocal guy, as well as lead-by-example.”

Ben Roethlisberger

Steelers quarterback

BETTING LINE

The Steelers are favored by 7.

PREDICTION

Steelers 27, Raiders 17
